There where wo reasons why do you receive a "lens error".

1. CF card slot cover or battery cover opened with camera on
2 . CF card slot cover or battery cover opened while camera was recording to CF card

In this case you have to ensure that CF card cover and battery cover is closed while camera is turn on.

You also need to be careful not to block the camera lens when turning on. Lens will have issues while retracting if your hands or even small thing that will block the lens to retrack while in motion of turning on.

that could be the lens cover not opening all the way, try and look at the lens as if you were doing self-portrait, and power on. if lens cover opens all the way but lens doesn't come out, the lens might be stuck or motor broke.

The error is reported because the positioning point of the main spooler cannot be detected. During self inspection upon startup, the plotter needs to detect the starting point of the positioning main spooler, namely, the Mark point. If this is not detected, the above error code is reported. SOLUTION: Replace the Lens Cover If the Lens Cover of the pen carriage is polluted during the operation, reading the Mark point will be affected. Therefore, replace Lens Cover via the menu operation. First, access the printer Setup Menu, and then access the Utilities menu. In the menu, select:Lens Maintenance option. Now the pen carriage of the printer will move out automatically, and prompt you to left the upper cover. Take out the standby Lens Cover (in the sponge of the upper cover of the printer), and then take out the old Lens Cover (below the right side of the pen carriage) on the pen carriage, and replace with a new Lens Cover. Restart the printer. If the printer does not return to normal, contact the local gold-level service center or HP800 technical support center.

You may have dust or some liquid blocking the cap from opening. Take a q t tip and clean cap. Use the q t tip to try to jar cap loose.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Before opening the camera, recommend trying the following first to try to correct it. The listed fixes only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

the problem of your camera is the ccd image sensor...better go to the sony service center for replacing the image sensor..i know it is free for replacing that sensor cause that is one of the model that sony recall produc and the cover not open error message is a poor contact of the lens cover switch...
