I appreciate the guidance, can the switch be bypassed to test this recommendation... perhaps disconnecting it would allow me to facilitate this action? If disconnected, would it cure this problem and confirm your recommendation? If the switch is replaced to no avail... what would be the next time step to resolve this issue???

The lid switch is likely bad. It should click when lid is opened and closed.

Yes, if you bypass it you should be able to verify the diagnosis. The switch wires must be connected together before the washer will work. It is designed as a safety to prevent injury if you were to put your hand in while the machine is running. If you do not hear a click, the switch is bad.

Whirlpool Thin Twin randomly skips agitation during the cycle.

Did you ever figure this out? Mine agitates but instead doesn't start spinning and draining unless I open the lid. It then "clicks" and starts but it is strange that I have to do this to get it to spin.

Hi, I own a Whirlpool Thin Twin Model# LT5000XSN1. I bought it used from a CRAPPY dealer (worst mistake EVER), since day one, we have had an issue with the spin cycle. The cycle will agitate then when the...

This sounds like a classic clogged empty pump issue. The empty cycle is timed and then it steps on to the spin cycle. The machine won't spin if there is still water in the bottom of the drum. When you reset it to a spin cycle again, you are making it run through the empty cycle again, finally getting rid of the water that the clogged filter could not evacuate on the first attempt.

You need to clean the empty pump filter. Now... Where is the filter???? Hmmmm... not sure. It MAY be behind a little panel in the front of the machine near the bottom. I can't find a picture of the machine on the net so I'm not sure.

Clean the filter, I'll bet your problem goes away. You have to wonder why the idiot who sold the machine to you hasn't suggested this!

Water won't dump

When you replace the pump, always to remember to makes sure the pump is pushed all the way in so that the shaft has a good grip. Try taking it out and pushing it all the way in. The 4 legs should touch the motor, as you put the 2 little clamps on the top and bottom.

Good luck, I'm pretty sure it's something really basic with the pump :)

Whirlpool AWO3761 stuck mid-cycle

The cycle doesn't advanceWhen the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

    My washer does not work

Sounds like you may have a lid switch problem. Without a model number, I really can give you a part number (Kenmore Stacks are made by two companies, Frigidaire and Whirlpool) or a way to get to it. It is right under the lid. Check the top and be sure that the plunger that goes into the hole isnt broke or missing. If you need further help, send me the model number (will start with 417 if its a Frigidaire or 110 if its a Whirlpool) and will try to get you a little more information. The job on either unit isnt that hard, and parts are pretty inexpensive. Let me know. Jim
