Question about Thermador PGR366 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a 6 burner, dual fuel range (about 2003). The left-front burner (extra-low burner) doesn't spark and its gas doesn't turn on. THe other burners work fine.

    Hi Macmarkus,
I'm reasonably handy with tools and have a solid understanding of electronics and would like to try the repair myself. If I fail then the pro will make a few more dollars fixing my mistakes! If you would post the repair manual I would surely appreciate it. Any tips for removal of the front control panel would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Stan

    Sorry Macmarkus,

I thought I included my email. I wasn't paying much attention!

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on the info you've provided in your post, specifically "The left-front burner (extra-low burner) doesn\'t spark and its gas doesn\'t turn on."

...I suspect you've got a faulty potentiometer ( burner switch for Xtra lo burners). Especially since you've stated the other burners are all OK, that pretty much rules out the simmer control and ignition module.

This is what I'm referring to...

I have a 6 burner, - macmarkus_426.jpg

Thus if it fails no current flows and the gas coil won't open and the ignitor won't spark.

Replacing the part can be fairly involved as it requires removing the front control panel of the range, you may want to call a pro, If not let me know and I'll try to assist you in any manner I can going forward.

I also have a service manual for most of the professional ranges from Thermador, even if not exactly like yours the operation and disassembly/service will be the same. I could only provide that via email though so you'd need to post an email address, your call.

I'll watch for your post and we can go from there. Thank's for visiting FixYa today. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hello again,

thank you for the reply Stan. As I mentioned in my previous post but perhaps wasn't clear, I cannot post the service manual due to it's size of slightly less than 4MB and the limitations for posting are 150KB.

However if you'd like to post an email address I can send it to you direct via a "PDF" attachment. In the service manual you'll find essentially anything you could ever need for servicing the "Pro" series Therrmador fuel and dual fuel ranges.

I will watch for your reply. I think it is something someone with mechanical reasoning could repair quite easily...even more so with the authorized Thermador service manual.

I also could include the complete parts illustration and break down "PDF" which is around 1.5MB as an attachment if you where interested.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

    Hey Stan,

No problem, I will send it off asap. Look for an email in the neighborhood of 5-6MB in size.

So if you have restrictions/limitations or some type of filter that may prevent you from receiving it, you'll know to allow it.

Will be sending within the hour.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

HI Macmarkus, We have the exact same problem. Could you possibly send the Thermador service manual to us as well? And the parts illustration and breakdown PDF? It's a PGR366 range. Thanks so much. Our address is dworpy@hotmail.com

Why want middle burner light automatically but will light with a lighter

That unit is suppose to have electronic quartz igniters. Apparently there's a problem but it doesn't automatically mean the igniter needs to be replaced. If you see a spark from the igniter then it's fine. If you see a spark but no flame then the ignition process is out of synchronization. In other words, the gas hasn't concentrated near the spark enough to ignite. This may be a matter of low gas pressure or the extra length the gas needs to flow to reach the center burner is impeding ignition. Simple fix is turn the knob just enough to start the gas for 2 seconds then continue the turn to click the igniter. or simply use a match. You may also see if there are any adjustments on the gas manifold that will enhance bringing more gas to the center burner quicker. Some unit have one click & that's it, others click the igniter continuously until you release turning the knob. Good luck. you'll figure it out.

I have a kenmore stove model number 790,72403012 and 3 of the 4 burners are working. They all are getting a spark, but the front left won't fire up.

First, try to light the burner in question with a match. Just hold a match to the burner, then turn the gas on to low. If the burner doesn`t light, the problem is the gas supply to the burner. Next, lift the top cover and put the prop rod in the hole in the cover to support it. Hold a match to the left-front burner. Now, turn the control knob to "light". You should see the igniter spark and hear a snap. If this doesn`t happen, repeat this step with the left rear burner. If you hear the spark and snap.
If the igniter doesn`t work on the front left burner, but does on the rear left burner, the igniter does work. The problem is likely the control knob for the left front burner. The. Control knob includes the electrical switch the activates the igniter when you turn on that burner.

Stove sparks but doesn't light

Hello,

If gas flows and burner sparks, the holes in burner near where the electrode(spark plug) is are clogged. A safety pin or paper clip pushed through those burner holes will clear the blockage

Good luck
I hope this helps,if it does please give me a 4 thumbs up rating&and perhaps a testimonial :)

Ignitor won't shut off

The Viking manual says that an ignitor that continues to try to light even after the burner has been lit indicates improper grounding, and that an electrician should be consulted.

Perhaps you could try to replace the ignitor, and see if that fixes the problem?

I have a similar age, 6-burner 36" rangetop.
