Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a Thermador dishwasher # dwhd650gfp with displayed error code 2, I verified oily residue on dishes and caked up grease on sump trap filter. This unit is 14 months old. I first reckognized that the dishes were not drying completely after cycle, then noticed the cold grease accumulation in drain area, then saw "E02" displayed on message board. I have read through some blogs that this issue could be a defective heater assembly, shorted or open circuit at the connection at the control panel or a defective control panel. I am capable to test these circuits but lack the schematic of what circuit to test. Also, prior this problem, condensation would form and drop one or more droplets of water onto the control panel, I do not know if this could be a contributing factor if the circuit board is not sealed from moisture. Thank you for your assistance, Barry

Thank you for the information. I guess what I am looking for is a diagnostic tree and schematic to test the individual circuit and condemn the failed part. I certainly do understand if this is not avaialbe to the general public, I am a electronics tech at a BMW center. I would appreciated any assitance in the future.

    Regards,

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

You would've been correct in your suspicion , of Bosch built dishwashers prior to this more recent revisions including yours.

Unfortunately that is no longer the case with the E02 error and this is what it indicates on your machine,

  • E:02 working relay error
  • working (primary) relay failed in module - safety (secondary) relay running dishwasher.
  • Replace power module

I can send you a complete service manual of your machine if you'd like to post an email address. I think that may prove to be the best way to assist you in the long run.

I'll watch for your post and we can go from there. Thank's for visiting FixYa today. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hello Barry,

I've attached the service info onto an email and will send it as soon as I fire off this notice to you that I've received your last post with the email address.

Let me know if you do not receive the email for whatever reason in the next little while (5 - 10 minutes) and I'll try to find an alternative way to get you the info, perhaps sending you to my windows live account web site, but we'll cross that bridge if and when we get there.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

    Hello Barry,

I'm not sure such an animal exists for your machine, however there should be a diagnostic/diagram specific to your machine below the tub behind the toe panel/kick plate when you remove it. I don't believe there is any "flow chart" diagnosis aid though.

Otherwise one of the several test programs laid out in the manuals I sent should suffice to identify the failed component. It sounds to me though as the main control (lower right hand side) has failed as that fault code E02 is seldom wrong...in my experience anyway.

Sorry I couldn't provide more of the specific info you're after, though I don't think it is available anywhere to my knowledge...Bosch hasn't supplied them to us authorized techs. if they exist. ( all they supplied is what I've sent you )

Good luck going forward and keep me posted to what you find or how the problem gets resolved. Thanks again for choosing FixYa.com.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

I found this on ehow I believe it will help. How to Troubleshoot Dishwasher Residue By Dale Yalanovsky eHow Contributor

5Found This HelpfulGeorge Doyle/Stockbyte/Getty images
Dishwater residue is a fairly common occurrence, and several things can cause it. Even the newest dishwashers may leave residue, and it might have nothing to do with the actual dishwasher function itself. However, there are things you can do to prevent, limit or completely remove dishwasher residue during every washing cycle.

Other People Are Reading

  1. Detergent Residue
    • Modern phosphate-free detergents are the main culprits when it comes to detergent residue. After every wash, many leave a slight whitish residue behind. After several washings, the residue becomes caked on and leaves a noticeable white tint to your dishes. Some dishwasher detergent brands are better than others, and either minimize residue or do not leave any. Once residue is present, however, the only way to remove it is by hand scrubbing or scraping.
    Hard-Water Residue
    • Hard-water residue comes from non-softened water from your hot water tank. Non-softened water leaves a white tint on dishes, but no amount of scrubbing will remove it. Only by wiping a small patch of the dish with vinegar or lemon juice will you be able to ascertain whether the white residue left is hard water or detergent. The slight acidic action of the vinegar or lemon juice removes hard-water stains, but they have no effect on detergent residue.
    Greasy Residue
    • If the dishes feel greasy when they come out of the dishwasher freshly washed, you are dealing with a greasy residue. There are two main reasons for this: either the detergent is not an effective grease remover, or the hot water inside of the dishwasher, either from the hot water tank or the dishwasher's heating elements, is not hot enough. Boosting the hot water temperature on the water tank may solve the problem, and a second wash cycle may be needed for the dishes. A preventive measure of running the dishwasher empty with a full load of detergent also removes the residue inside of the dishwasher.
    Streaking and Spotting Residue
    • If you have spotting or streaking on your dishes, that may be a sign you need a rinse agent. Many modern dishwashers recommend a rinse agent to prevent spotting or streaking, and without one, your dishes will never be crystal clear or streak-free. The next time you do a dishwasher load, add a rinse agent. If the dishes come out spot- and streak-free, the problem is solved.

I keep getting E22 warning

E22 is residual water in sump, this could be blocked pump, dirty filter, grease build up. If you have removed white pump cover to check for blockages, ensure that it is completely clipped back into position before trying again. The non return valve maybe allowing dirty water to drain back into the machine. If you tend to run a quick wash a lot, you may need to boil a kettle and pour it into the sump to clear any build up from around the optical sensor in the sump. Post if you need further assistance

Water is not spraying well while dishwasher is running. We had a service call and the technician cleaned a trap clogged with food near the water pump. I think the same thing happened but do not know how to...

You have to remove the sprayer arm, it's cover, and the cover underneath that located on the bottom of the dishwasher, inside the dishwasher. If you find a large amount of grease/food under these covers then you are not rinsing your dishes enough before placing in the washer.
The disposal unit in these units are nothing more than a cheap metal blade spinning over a metal grate. Anything tougher than a piece of cake and it's frosting runs the risk of breaking the gears that drives this.
Clean all the food/grease that you can access. Be careful while removing the gunk, I have found glass shards from broken dishes. Locate the disposal impeller and screen. It can be removed. Inspect it for damage and reinstall after cleaning.
Your water flow can be restricted if this is plugged.

Whte residue left on glassware and dishes

use a dishwashing cleaning agent in the machine. or some thing the has a grease cutting agent.run this on an empty cycle.
there are times residue grease and oils can accumulate down in the sump area where the water sits and can cause film on the dishes.
this could also be some lime or scale build up for that you can use some C.L.R or any kind of lime and scale remover to clean your machine.
make sure tht that this is done on an empty dishwasher

Dishwasher causing white residue on dishes

With the heat element caked in the white residue this tells me for sure it is hard water. Pick up some Lemi-Shine and run it through the dishwasher and use it during the cycle per the instructions and you will be very happy with the results.
