Try booting into "Safe Mode", it is possible that your video driver is corrupted, if that don't work then it is possible that your screen "backlight" is bad or your inverter board is bad. Shine a flashlight on the screen to see if you can see your desk top icons. if you see the icons then it is time to replace one of the two items, I have never had a bad inverter board, but have replace a lot of laptop screens. Go to Ebay and search for a replacement screen and go to Toshiba on instruction on removing the screen.
Screens can run anywhere from $70.00 and up and take about a hour to replace ..The hardest part is removing the plastic bezel around the screen

Try holding in Fn (lower left corner) and pressing F2. That should toggle the backlight if it was accidently turned off. Press it one more time if that didn't help.

If it still doesn't work, try plugging in a monitor to the external port if you have one available. You can try pressing Fn + F5 to toggle between external monitor and your laptop LCD.

Lastly you can hold Fn and press F7 a few times to turn up the brightness incase it was turned all the way down.

Please leave feedback if this helps. Thanks.

Try hooking up an external monitor to it then turn it on. If it works then you may need to replace your screen. Some of the time its cheaper, and easier, to just buy a new laptop then to replace the screen.

Screen bis Blank

1) Try an external monitor to see if it displays anything. If it does, the backlight in your LCD screen died. You will need to replace the LCD screen.
2) If it doesn't display on the external monitor, then the motherboard is bad.

How can i get my sylvania netbook to work when i turn it on and it wont do anything all it does is stay at a black screen? Need help with my sylvania computer problems

When you plug in the power cord do you see any lights either on the power cord's adapter or on the computer that indicates that the power cord is plugged in? If not, your power cord might be bad. You might have been running off your battery for the last time you used it and since the power cord was bad it was not charging your battery so it eventually drained all battery power.

When you turn it on do you hear any fans running, any hard drive running, cd drive clicks once and you see the light on the cd drawer come on for a second or two, lights anywhere on the computer? If so these are signs that the computer is trying to boot. If not you might have a motherboard issue.

Static Charge Buildup can also cause the computer not to boot. Remove the power cord and battery from the laptop. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds then put the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and try to reboot. If it boots, you had a static charge buildup and can put the battery back in now.

Is the computer actually up and running but the screen is black? If so take a flashlight and shine it on the black screen. If you can bearly see the icons on the desktop that means your lcd inverter is bad and needs to be replaced.

If the computer is actually up and running but the screen is black, try hooking an external monitor to the laptop. You can use any type of monitor, even the big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to plug into the laptops vga port. You might have to press the FN (Function Key) and one of the F1 thru F12 function keys to get the image to display. Normally the correct F1 thru F12 key will have CRT/LCD written on it or it will have an icon of a display. Press and Hold the FN key then hit the correct F1 thru F12 Key to display the image on the external monitor. If it shows, that means your Video Card is ok.

If the computer is on and running but the screen is black, you don't see any icons on the desktop when you use a flashlight then your lcd screen will probably need to be replaced. It might be something as simple as the lCD Cable is loose or just needs reseated (pulled aloose then plugged back).

You'll have to take the screen apart to get to the lcd inverter and the lcd cables.

I have just a black screen on the laptop, sounds like it's running and there are lights flashing

1. the light tube or florescent tube that lights the screen may have malfunctioned and needs replacement.
2. You probably need an inverter replaced also.
3. Your unit needs service.
4. Check to see if the pc is charged also > it could be that the battery has failed
5. Your power supply adapter may not be charging the battery also.

Acer Aspire 3620 Screen

Check Acer's website for a BIOS update. I've seen a LOT of laptop's screen issues been related to the power saving settings in the BIOS. Sometimes screens going black very fast and not working properly can be caused by that.

The Power Inverter could also be the problem which you wouldn't be able to repair yourself. If you purchased it at Best Buy you can take it to them and they could get that fixed for you (at a charge if there is no warranty with that).
