Question about On Stage Stands JBL On Stage Micro Remote Control

1 Answer

My husband dropped our on stage icro remote in the hot tub, and it is now not working. Is there anything we might try to get it to work? Do you think replacing the battery might make a difference? Or, are just out of luck?

Thank you! We did take the battery out yesterday after it was dropped in the hot tub, but we'll trying blowing it out and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, do you think the battery could be ruined now, and do you think getting a new battery might get it working again?

Go and take the battery out of it RIGHT NOW and then come back and read the rest of this answer. In my experience, water by itself doesn't harm electronics much, but what usually kills small electrical equipment is corrosion of the parts due to the battery voltage. Think of it as a kind of 'accelerated rusting' process. Unfortunately, some of the components and circuit board tracks on miniature equipment are so small, that they can 'rust' away in a very short time.

Your task, if you're going to recover it, is to dry it out before it corrodes. The reason I told you to go and take the battery out is because of the accelerated corrosion process that takes place in the presence of a voltage. With the battery removed, you have a much better chance of having it dry out before too much corrosion takes place.

Your best bet to dry it out is to vacuum or blow according to what you have available. You want to remove the water if possible, partly to speed the drying process, and partly to eliminate the salt residue caused by simply waiting for it to evaporate. Depending on what you have, try to vacuum through the device - use the battery compartment opening - to **** out whatever water you can. When you've exhausted that, also blow if possible, to blow out any remaining dampness.

Try the battery briefly - any good? If not, leave it for a while, preferably in a place that has some air movement. Try it again after a few hours, but don't leave the battery in, for the reason I mentioned.

If it's not working for you, try opening the device up. I confess I don't know how this opens, so I can't help you (yet) but obviously opening it will speed up the drying process.

I'm sorry, but it's unlikely to be the battery itself, unless the terminals are corroded themselves. I know you'd like it to be the battery because that's the easiest thing to replace - but it's far more likely that it's something inside the electronics. You were smart to take the battery out when it happened, it would be a shame if your quick thinking wasn't rewarded :-( These things work on very small currents of electricity, so just a bit of tub water will 'short things out' and stop it working. Drying out the inside has to be your goal, does it look like the kind of remote that you could pry open to dry it properly?

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear a way to pry it open without breaking it. I did find a number for JBL parts department, that I'll try calling tomorrow (if it's still not working), and see if we can purchase another remote! I appreciate your honesty about the battery. I just as well not spend our time trying to track down a batter, when it probably won't solve the problem!

Thank you for your answers. It is greatly appreciated! :-(

Dropped Redi Remote. Won't work now. Anything I can do to make it work? Chip and batteries are over heating!

Try new batteries. Could have damaged them. If not battery can be a wire inside. Get batteries out as the can explode. Get them outside and in a metal container and monitor and if stays hot disposal properly. Don't just drop them in a battery drop box if it's still reacting.

Dream 500+ mutimedia remote does not work. Was working fine until i dropped it on the floor. Green light on box does not even flash. Please help as my husband will be seriously upset. Thanks

I am sorry that you dropped your remote. Most likely you broke something in it when it dropped. There is only a couple things you can do. Number one, make sure battery in the remote did not get loose. If you have checked that real good then it most likely is something on the circuit board that got loose. You could also take it into a regular computer repair store or tv repair store as those kind of places (electronic shops) might be able to fix it.

Other option is a few sites I am listing below ( links to copy and past in browser) and you can read them and find your unit and order another one.

I hope of these site helped you. Please Let me know with rating my free answer. Mike

I have a 15 year old Hydropool Gold Series hot tub that I bought used a month ago. We got it all hooked up and working great but was told the timer never worked so it ran 24/7. Yesterday my husband turned...

If you can find the points on the timer try sanding them down. If they were burnt and stuck the spa would have run continuous. When you pulled the timer you may have broken them free but a burn would have kept them from making contact. I hope this helps, if not you might try reversing the leads coming into the timer or wherever you unhooked it to take it out. good luck.

Dropped my matrix in hot tub

take the battery and sim card out, let this thing dry out for a while...several days.. if you can disassemble it, you ma be able to dry it out with a compressed air spray can.
if not, at least take the battery and sim out.
You can also purchase a container of silica granules at a craft store (they use it to dry flowers) and put the unit in a large bag with the container of siica to absorb out the moisture.
These are long shots, but its worth a try if you can save buying a new one.Good luck on this.

TV locked on channel 3 and have no remote

Thats EXACTLY what happened to our tv!

Ours was originally locked on channel 4 but I left it unplugged overnight and now its oddly stuck on channel 3.

The only thing I can think of to do is try to search for/buy a remote that will work on the tv to bring the menu up again. I don't know how to manually reset it or do anything.

If you think the problem is a fuse or circuit breaker, I see three fuses and a circuit breaker. Use a test lite and check voltage at circuit breaker and fuses, some are hot all the time, I believe one goes hot with the key on.
