Not possible, and before you start you need to create your "System Recovery Disk" before you continue, if you haven't done so...and you need to backup any data you wish to reload after your re-install

How do I make a recovery disk?

Which operating system ?

there are some you can download

If you computer crashes and your hard drive fails, you can lose a lot of data and spend a great deal of time trying to find all your discs and re installing all of your information.

It can be very difficult to find and re-install your operating system if you do not have the original CDs that came with your computer.

But if you create a recovery CD for your computer, the restore process can be much faster and quite easy.

Put the blank CD in your CD writer.

Click on the Windows Start button.

Click on the Control Panel option.

Click on Backup Your Computer from under the System Maintenance section option.

Click on the Backup Your Computer button on the Backup and Restore menu.

Select your CD drive from the drop-down list and press the Next button.

Click the Start Backup button to begin the backup process.

you might need to use dvd rw depending on the size of the backup

The Gateway Recovery Center opens. b Click Recovery, then click Next. Your computer restarts. - OR - 2 If you cannot run Windows: a Turn on or restart your computer. b While the computer is starting up, repeatedly press F8 until the Recovery Options screen opens. If Windows starts to load instead, restart the computer and try again. 3 Press the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Repair Your Computer, then press ENTER. The System Recovery Options menu opens. 6 Click Restore Application. The Welcome to Gateway System Recovery window opens. 7 Click Next. 8 To perform a recovery with data backup (recommended), click Recovery with automatic data backup, then click Next. Important Before your hard drive is recovered, your personal files will be automatically backed up to c:\backup. - OR - To perform a full factory recovery without data backup, click Full factory recovery, then click Next. Caution Continuing with the full factory recovery will delete everything on your hard drive. Make sure that you have backed up any important files you want to save. 9 Click Yes, then click Next. The Factory image recovery window opens, which shows you the progress of the system recovery. When recovery is finished, the Recovery is complete window opens. 10 Click Finish, then click Restart. Your computer restarts in its original factory condition. You still need to reinstall any software that was not pre-installed on your computer. If you selected Recovery with automatic data backup in Step 8, you can find your backed up files in c:\backup.

My xps i don't come on when you boot up the CD light comes on for a second and then all I get is a black screen

When you boot up hold down the F8 button on your keyboard until you see start up options then click on start up repair
  • Startup Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as missing or damaged system files, that might prevent Windows from starting. Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it might also be stored on your computer's hard disk. For more information, see Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista? If your computer does not include Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer might have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.
  • Change restart settings in safe mode. If your computer is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and then fails again repeatedly, restart your computer in safe mode and select the Disable automatic restart on system failure checkbox. For more information, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).
  • Reinstall. If no other options have solved the problem, and you are sure that your computer's hardware is functioning normally, you might need to reinstall Windows. A custom (clean) installation of Windows will permanently delete all of the files on your computer and reinstall Windows, so only use this option if all other recovery options have been unsuccessful. After the installation, you will need to reinstall your programs and restore your files from backup copies. For more information, see Installing and reinstalling Windows‌.

I NEED A RECOVERY DISC FOR GATEWAY LAP TOP IT HAS WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM IT IS BRAND NEW I DOWN LOADED A PROGAM IT MESSED IT UP

a lot of computers don't come with a recovery disk.
The System Recovery Options menu in Windows contains several tools that can help you recover Windows from a serious error. You can perform repairs to the files that Windows uses to start itself, perform a restore operation using System Restore, and restore your entire computer and system files using backups that you have made previously.
Note
  • If your computer does not include the System Recovery Options menu, your computer manufacturer might have provided other recovery options. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website for more information.
  • If your computer has preinstalled recovery options:
    1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.
Click the Start button getcontent.aspx?assetid=4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33&documentset=en-us&renderkey=signed1, click the arrow next to the Lock button getcontent.aspx?assetid=eb058ccf-b21e-4dfe-9bb7-1ad6c83b705c&documentset=en-us&renderkey=signed1, and then click Restart.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
      • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
    3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press ENTER. (If Repair your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer does not include the System Recovery Options menu as a preinstalled recovery option.)
    4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
    5. Select a user name and enter the password, and then click OK.
    6. On the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it.
    7. i hope that this will help you.
