Question about KitchenAid KSRP25FN Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

Side by Side KitchenAid won't cool

I bought a used 2004 KitchenAid - I plug it in, and everything seems to work - light comes on, compressor hums, air cirulates, but it doesn't cool down (even when left all day). The fridge has been sitting turned off for the past year.

I checked the obvious - temperature control and cleaned the condenser coils.

SOURCE: KitchenAid fridg compressor heating up

If the compressor is very hot, it sounds like it may be locked up. Is there an external fan next to it that is not running. this will cause the comp. to overheat, like a dirty coil, which it sounds like you checked out. There is a thermal overload on the compressor. Its underneath the little plastic cover that the wires go to. It protects the compressor from a meltdown. It also has a relay in there. If you have an amp meter you can check this by waiting for it to cool off and clamp it on one of the compressor wires.when it clicks on, If the amps soar over 20 very quickly, and then stops. Its a locked compressor and the thermal overload is cutting it out. If you don't have a volt/amp meter, then try replacing the relay as its pretty cheap. But I would bet on the comp. as long as the fan is running.

SOURCE: KitchenAid side by side KSRE25F not working

I have the same problem. However, the compressor on most of these refrigerators is warranteed for 12 years. Check your owner's manual. If so, you may be able to get a free compressor and just pay for the labor, which is around $200. I just had mine replaced but we're still having a cooling problem. If yours is the compressor, it should be covered. You need to go to a factory authorized repair center, though.

Whirlpool refrigerators as well as the other brands that fall under the corporation most like at some point within the first five years will stop cooling and freezing, and the sound you here will be either a humming follow by a click or in some cases just the click alone. This is caused by the start device on the compressor. The relay part of it has basically burnt, fell apart inside, however you want to describe and is not passing the power to the compressor to come on. To access this pull the refridgerator out from the wall, and first and foremost unplug it. Once that is done remove the lower panel, sometimes cardboard sometimes metal which is held up by a few quarter inch screws. Place to the side and located the compressor. The box on the side is start device, it will have 2 or 3 wires going to it, most of the time red and white respectively. Also they maybe a black box thats connected to the start device and sits horizontallty. Thats the capacitor. Keep that if your going to do the repair yourself. I recommend doing it because its very easy and will save you alot of money. You can buy this part at www.repairclinic.com or at www.apdepot.com just be sure to have your make and model number handy.

Hi,

It sounds like the compressor is not running.

The compressor is the black metal dome shapped component in the back, it is about the size of a bowling ball.

- With the refrigerator unplugged take the back panel off. Find the wires that go into the compressor and follow them back, it is most likely that one came loose while cleaning. If you need help in locating where they should plug in I can help with that.

- If all the wires are connected then put the panel on and listen closely to the compressor area while plugging the refrigerator back in. You should here it start, a hum that gets a bit louder. If you do not hear this listen closely for a couple of minutes for a single 'click'. If you hear the click then you either have a wire off or the start device is in need of being replaced. This is a fairly easy repair.

If the compressor runs and there is no click and no cooling then the sealed system has been most likely damaged and the repair is a major one. This is highly unlikely with a general cleaning.

It sounds fine but isn't cooling on either side.

If your model is the KSRD22FKST then we need to check to see if the defrost control board is burned out. It will be inside the fresh food section and behind the control panel. We also need to check the thermostat and the compressor start relay and start capacitor. I'm here if you need my assistance. Please confirm your model number. Thanks, Sea Breeze

KitchenAid Side by Side

if you hear a clicking like the compressor is trying to start, like a clicking on and off this sounds like it could be your start run relay trying to kick your compressor on. if this is bad it will continue to click, and your compressor won't start. unless your mechanically inclined this might be the time to call a service tech. the start run relay switch sits on the compressor behind the fridge.

hi there,

sounds like you may have a compressor problem. most compressors have a longer warranty on them, so i would recommend that you contact an authorized service center and have them come and take a look at it.

Refrigerator and freezer not cooling properly

you have a deffective compressor the humming that your hearing or the clicking is the relay on the compressor trying to start the unit, the compressor is stuck and cannot start, leaving it unplugged lets the compressor cool down, but as it tries to recool the unit it gets orerheaated again, thus the bad compressor
