Question about HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Try this: With printer turned on, remove the USB cable and then remove the ink cartridges. Close the cover and wait until you are prompted to insert cartridges. When that happens turn off the printer for a couple of minutes then turn printer back on, put the cartridges in and reconnect to computer. If this does not fix it, take it in for a service to the authorized company.

This is an ink cartridge problem.
Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Fro our Fixya community:
Try holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons all at once. While holding them down, press the On button to power it off (You may need another person if you lack large, coordinated hands). Turn it back on while still holding the other buttons down. You will notice it turn itself off before "booting" fully. After it turns itself off, you can finally let go of those buttons and turn it back on normally. This will force a reset and system maintenance.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

SOURCE: I recieve Ink System failure
The error that you are having is a hardware issue, it means your printer has an Ink System Failure. Believe me, there's no use going through troubleshooting for this one. Call HP and just Upgrade your printer. HP Printer Tech Support would be more than happy in giving you discounts and an extra year of warranty for $1.00.
