Yes its possible that motor is got dried internally. There is grease in the motor and other parts to make it run fluently, when this grease gets dried out then internal motor and and other motor connected parts gets hard.So it makes noise when it starts, but once it gets flow, the noise gets slow or goes away. But this can cause the motor to get shorted out and even its possible that motor is got weak and needs to be replaced. You will have to disassemble the hood unit and visually inspect the motor,.If it looks very dirty and worn out.Its external body got burned/ rusted then it needs to be replaced. But it only looks dried out then you can lube the internal motor parts by applying motor grease.-------- the noise can also occur from fan motor or jammed fan blades. That also too has to be inspected.-------- For that you will need disassembly diagrams:---- click this link below for hood disassembly:--- ------------- Click this link below for vent disassembly:--- --------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Then turn it off immediately just to be safe that nothing will be broken, can you see the interior? Is there anything broken or loose that might cause the noize? If yes remove.
If not try to clean it with a little cloth or anything, maybe it is too dusty.

Ge monogram fan dying slow death...first hi-spd. only, now only humming, lights it fuse, transformer or worse, blower assembly

My best guess is the blower motor is going out -- probably the bearings. You might be able to replace just the motor excluding the propeller or the squirrel cage as the case maybe.

If you are going to use the hood ductless you just need to make sure that it comes with a charcoal filter or buy one at the time. Also you need to make sure the hood can be used ductless.

There is no kit to make this conversion. That being said, you could get an estimate from a sheet metal fabrication shop on creating the conversion you are seeking.

Good luck with it.
