Question about Uniden TRU9485 Cordless Phone

Answering macihne won't answer, disconnects after a few minutes

My TRU9485 answering machine use to work great, but now only annuonces a few seconds of our message, then disconnects whomever is calling. Checked all options in book to be sure I wasn't on "Announce Only", and even asked Uniden for help, but not resolved yet.

Any help???? do I need a new base unit? my answering machine does not answer after 4 rings--that's how it's set up. The phone rings and rings on an incoming call, but the answering machine doesn't pick up. Pat Adams

Unplug your unit and allow it a few minutes to reset it's self. than call it using a cell phone and see if it does the same thing. If so check you menu option and make sure that the anserwing machine is not set up to only record for a certain period of time before disconnecting the call.

    go to the trouble shooting section. it will tell you how to reset your handset from the base.

    also it tells you why your messages are not complete.



    Please remind your callers to leave a breif message. also clear some one the old messages your memory may be ful whitch will cause it to cut off the caller.

My power went off this morning for a minute and when it cam back on my answering machine didn't go back on. There is an ER on the display screen.


Try un plugging it, usually this means its loading. but unplug it for a few seconds, then hook it back up to see if that works.

The 25932 isn't an answering macihne. If you have a separate answering machine connected to your phone line, consult its documentation. If you subscribe to a voicemail system offered by your phone company, contact them for instructions.

How do I turn the answering systyen on & off


You can do this from the base or the handset with the unit in standby mode (not being used for a call or access other menus).

From the base press the Answering Machine On button (at the bottom right of the keypad on the base).

From the handset, press the message softkey (this is the right softkey). Remote Answering Machine Operation will show up on the screen and the unit will announce the time and number of messages (new and old). Press 9 during the announcement. You will hear Answering System is On and the current greeting.

I just bought a x4270 lexmark.i do not see in the maual set up for smart ring,another term is short ring and ido have a answering machine set up aswell.im wondering if i can even use this unit.any answers?


Yes, you can.

You have to connect the answering machine to the X4270 like this

and set it to answer before the X4270 does. Say, 4 rings for the answering machine and 5 for the X4270.

The X4270 will monitor the few first seconds of the call anyway, and if it detects the whistle of an incoming fax, it will disconnect the answering machine and receive the fax.

With most answering machines, disconnecting while the greeting message is still playing will not be considered a call.

Answer light flashes, answering machine doesn't answer. have no manual.


Possible solution.

I have the same problem -- I returned the phone and got a new one. 3 weeks later, the power went out -- same thing. Light flashes but phone won't work.

I called Panasonic and they advised me to remove all the batteries from the handsets, and unplug all the bases for 'a few minutes'. This did nothing...when I plugged everything in, answering machine still would not work.

I spoke to my brother who is an electrician, and he said the base has a 'capacitor' in it, and will not drain down (so phone can be reset) unless it's unplugged for at LEAST a few hours. He suggested I unplug everything and remove the batteries and leave it all overnight. Will attempt this and let you know if this is a resolution.

Error message 8 - won't record call


Here's how we fixed it. The official solution in the manual is to unplug the machine for 20 minutes. That didn't help. Apparently, we needed to do it for longer. After we left both ends of the power cord (from the wall and the machine) unplugged for about 5 hours, the machine magically worked again -- and no more code 8.
