When starting up the netbook, it begins to load Windows xp - then recommends doing a disk check - when it begins to do the disk check, it shows "File record segment 1420 is unreadable." and does not continue. Can you offer any assistance ?

How do i fix a hard drive over load or a virus on my acer netbook?

Try running the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Am trying to reinstall window xp on lg x130 but its unable to load windows bringing an error

Wow, chalk one more up for me and my advice to never buy a netbook, tablet or anything that does not have a CD Drive because one day the thing is going to crash and leave you up the creek without a paddle.

It sounds like you have some setting in the bios that is killing your windows install. If it recognized your drive from the beginning of the install and allowed you to select the drive to install windows, then you have a disk controller issue or a bios setting that is killing you. Also the motherboard could be crapping on you. I've seen it act in this manner when it is bad.

Check your Bios or System Setup and see if you have some type of setting for Large Drive Support and also check for some setting for AHCI. Change the setting (especially for AHCI) and see if it works.

Its an asus pc 1018series need to re boot how can i perform it

Your asus netbook should have come with a White restore dvd. You will need an external dvd drive to use it.
Just put it in and it will boot to the disk and begin the restore process. Follow the instructions and you should do fine.
If it didn't come with a restore disk, You can Load XP or windows 7 from new media. Every driver you will need is provided at asus' website. You will need to load the xp version of the touchpad utility, as well as the chipset and acpi drivers, even if you choose to load windows 7.
I'm using I Eee PC 1000HE with 2 gig of ram and a single core Intel Atom n280 processor, and it runs windows 7 just fine. If you need more help, reply, and I will help as muh as I can.

All Acer netbooks have a factory install image on a hidden partition of the hard disk. Suggest you should re-install the original windows xp factory image. All user data on the C: drive will be cleared by Acer eRecovery which you would start up as follows....
1. have the netbook connected to its AC adapter which is plugged into AC power line
2. power on the netbook and watch the screen as it starts up
3. when the acer logo is showing, hold down the Alt key and press F10 repeatedly
4. until screen indicates Acer eRecovery is loading
5. once eRecovery is loaded, follow the directions given on the screen

The Acer Aspire One Netbook has a hidden partition containing the files required for restoration to the original factory condition. The restoration clears all user data from the C: drive and requires that you have the netbook plugged into its AC adapter as the process takes significant time during which it should not be interrupted at the risk of hard disk corruption. To begun the process....
1. power on the netbook while it is plugged into its AC adapter
2. during power-on, while the Acer Logo is showing, press Alt and F10 together several times
3. Acer eRecovery loads showing the Windows screen momentarily
4. follow the on-screen directions and make the selection to recover the factory default image

Hi sioban_bros,

Based on your situation. I suggest trying the following steps:

1. restart the computer and keep pressing F8; Use Last Known Good Configuration.

2.If the issue still occurs after that, I suggest testing if we can boot from a Windows XP disk. If so, please install Windows XP on another partition and access your important data.

3. After backing up those data, you can use Windows XP disk to format the drive and reinstall your preferred operating system.

4. However, if we cannot boot from a Windows XP disk, the issue can be caused by incorrect BIOS settings or damaged hardware. I recommend contacting your computer manufacturer to check BIOS and hardware.

To access the data on the drive, you can try to install the hard drive on another computer.

Hope it helps.

Please rate this solution if found useful.

Best regards,

Your boot files or windows installation is corrupt.
You may need a windows disc of the same version installed to fix it, if you dont have 1, or a recovery disk, you may be left with no option but to reinstall windows (You may need to buy 1)

Brand new acer aspire won't load windows xp

If you can still get into the BIOS, see if you have an option for D2D recovery. if so, make sure it is enabled.

restart the system and hold down Alt+f10. if your recovery partition is still intact, this should start a factory reload of your system.

Try Safe Mode.Disconnect every device (Mouse also)
Hit F8 at very beginning until you get a list of options select Safe mode and check if Windows starts.
then try step by step confirmation option.
say yes to every request until freeze: last driver you accepted to load is the culprit.
Remove it in Safe mode using Start/Run/Msconfig
