Black cartridge doesn't print

Hi,

I have a Brother MFC-465cn and I recently changed the black cartridge (LC-51) and when I printed the test page everything printed except black, I opened another new cartridge just in case and same thing happened. After numerous cleaning and print test I gave up..

Please if you know how I could solve this I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Jay

You need to do a hard reset on the printer as well it might clear up the problem and recognize the ink at its proper levels.

refer to your user manual or let us know and we will find the procedure to do so.

i have a similar model and know how picky they can be.

ok the following below was taken from the manual of the MFC unit which you can view all the documentation on it here

I searched around and could not find the hard reset procedure on their website so I will have to try myself to see if I can do it on mine.

    but please read the following.

your output, some of the nozzles may be

clogged. You can check this by printing the

Print Quality Check Sheet and looking at the

    nozzle check pattern.

    a Press Ink.

b Press a or b to choose Test Print.

    Press OK.

    c Press a or b to choose

    Print Quality.

    Press OK.

    d Press Color Start.

The machine begins printing the Print

    Quality Check Sheet.

e Check the quality of the four color blocks

    on the sheet.

f The LCD asks you if the print quality is

    OK.

    Do one of the following:

􀂄 If all lines are clear and visible, press

    1
(Yes) to finish the Print Quality

    check.

    Go to step j.

􀂄 If you can see missing short lines as

shown below, press 2 to choose No.

g The LCD asks you if the print quality is

OK for black and three colors.

Press 1 (Yes) or 2 (No).

h The LCD asks you if you want to start

    cleaning.

    Press 1 (Yes).

The machine starts cleaning the print

    head.

i After cleaning is finished, press

    Color Start
    .

The machine starts printing the Print

Quality Check Sheet again and then

    return to step e.

    j Press Stop/Exit.

If you repeat this procedure at least five

times and the print quality is still poor,

replace the ink cartridge for the clogged

    color.

After replacing the ink cartridge, check

the print quality. If the problem still

exists, repeat the cleaning and test print

procedures at least five times for the

new ink cartridge. If ink is still missing,

    call Brother Customer Service.

Somethings that have worked for some Brother owners to get cartridges recognised.

1. With your MFC powered up, open it up and remove the cartridge you are having a problem with, then close the MFC, leaving it powered up. It should report that there is no cartridge in the machine.

Still with the MFC powered up, open it up and reinsert the ink cartridge, then close the MFC. It should either ask if you have replaced a cartridge or go into its cleaning mode.

Answer "yes" to "have you replaced cartridge?" and it should either "print" or "clean" and then "print".

2. The cartridge holder in the printer has an "electronic eye" (light sensor) of some type for each cartridge.
Some users have found that putting either permanent marker/sharpie/black PVC tape either on the area of the ink cartridge that goes near the sensor or alternatively putting tape over the sensor itself allows printing to occur.
The problem with this method is that the printer will no longer recognise near-empty cartridges and so will not warn you to replace them and so the print head may be damaged. This is said to work on LC57 icartridges used with the following models: DCP-330C, DCP-350C, DCP-540CN, DCP-560CN, FAX-2480C, MFC-240C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN, MFC-665CW, MFC-685CW, MFC-885CW, MFC-3360C, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN.

How can I fix no cartridge error on brother mfc-465cn

It sounds like it may actually be the "print head" which is what the carts fit into. These can and will go bad. Sometimes you can find replacements on ebay etc. But you need to make sure it is exactly the same part number. There could also be a number of other issues, the cart contacts could be dirty or damaged (another print head issue resolved by replacing), counterfeit cartridge, bad cart. These are the most common, but not the ONLY issues that can cause your problems. I'd check prices for replacement print head vs. new printer.

My Brother 465CN recently decided that even though I have a new black ink cartridge in, that there is no cartridge.

The code is within the ink cartridge itself. If it is not a main brand cartarage, you may have th esame problem with both . I would suggest buying a main brand one .
heads can be cleaned with a tooth brush and alcohol. Dry well.

Another user here suggested that you change the Media Type in Printing Preferences to 'Inkjet Paper' instead of 'Plain Paper' and this worked for me. Of course I don't know if it's pulling from the black nozzle or not, but I do get black now.

Brother Mfc-845cw and Mfc-465cn both stopped printing Black about the same time. Using Non brother Ink. Tried cleaning, replacing carts, unpluging maching. how can I fix this.

the black ink that was used in the refilled cartridges was probably to thick for the nozzels on the head, you can try buying the original cartridges and then cleaning again, or check with the store you got these cartridges from as some of them offer a warranty

Brother MFC-465CN won't prink cyan

You got to re-check back the Ink Cartridge you've buy recently.. Sometime the ink already freeze inside the cartridge bcoz its been really-really-really long time they keep before the usage.. Ive also have experience about problem like this b4, so better re-check/change back the cartridge.. Or If the
printer head is not at the cartridge, it is seperate from the cartridge, you have to check back the printer head also.. normally all the new printer head comes together with the cartridge.. and prefer to use the Original Cartridge more than Pirated Cartridge ok.. Cheap Cartridge always giv a lot of problem, especially like Your problem.. Thats All, Good Luck and Happy Trying..

Brother mfc 465cn printer

If you remove the empty cartridge, you will see a small window on the egde that plugs into the printer, in the center. This is where the printer optically scans for ink levels. On the empty color cart, you can try covering that raised spline with electrical tape or by coloring it with a black permanent marker. That should fool the sensor into thinking your ink is full.
