Question about Sony VPL-CX85 3000 Slide Projector

1 Answer

Problem with Sony VPL-CX85 dataprojector. I turn it on, the green power light comes on, the lens cover opens, and then a few seconds later, with no input from me, the cover over the lens closes again, the power light blinks green for a minute or so and then goes off and changes to the steady red colour. At no time does the auto tilt work, but the fan does whirr OK. I have tried it with my laptop connected and on, with my laptop connected and off, and without my laptop connected at all. I cannot get the dataprojector to stay on and the lens cover open. This is today. Yesterday the projector worked fine with the same laptop and same connections. Between the time when the projector worked (yesterday) and when it didn't work (today) nothing was moved - everything sat on the same table overnight. What has happened and how do I put it right? Many thanks Peter

Not particularly helpful as (a) I was not using a USB cable but using a VGA cable and (b) the lamp has still 900 hours of life left and (c) I thought the point of FIXAYA was to bypass service agents.
Since posting my query I have solved the problem myself as follows. With everything off I used my fingers to gently slide the lens cover open to its maximum, and then I slightly pushed it further open on the assumption that there was some kind of internal switch. I then turned everything on. The lens cover automatically closed, then automatically opened, and then everything worked just fine. Since then I have checked everything is OK by fully powering down, switching off, disconnecting all cables, and then reconnecting and starting again. I have done this several times. Everything is fine. So maybe my assumption about some kind of switch on the lamp cover was correct?

1. your lamp may need to be replaced according to the user manual and or you have a defective USB cable for the laptop ( internal wires broken)
2. your unit will need to be serviced.

Fixya job is not to bypass the manufacturer technical support but to provide you with the best possible advice as to your issue.
Being that the Fixya expert is not present to assertain what the issue is particularly then it is the best advice from the Fixya Expert to point you to a certified tech or if he or she has full knowledge of repair of your unit is to either have said unit sent to them if they are qualified to service you device and charge a fee for that service.Fixya is a consultation site to point you to the direction of possibly solving you issue if not then pointing you to the company that created the device, unless that Fixya Expert is totally informed to correct this issue via the Fixya site. With detail instructions assuming the customer is capable of repairing the device himself. From the information given this is not the case. If said customer is unfamiliar with the electronics or electronic repair of device mentioned then referral to a qualified tech is in lieu
I apologize that you are not satisfied with the answer provided but thank you for using Fixya.

I have Sony VPL CS6 projector and the lens cover stays open and wont shut to cover the lens!! The Lens/Cover light on it flashes? It does project for about 15seconds or so but then goes off, this is when...

It is possible that there can be few reasons for the fault siad:
1.the lamp can be faulty
2. the filter can be clogged.
3. the lens cap trigger switch can be faulty and staying on
4.The power supply can be faulty, not delivering the power but shuts off.
5,the main processor board can be faulty witth errors.
It might need board swapping to confirm.

I'm getting a flashing light for lamp cover and suddenly can't get my projector to show the show? tony

the swith that the lamp cover engages is not functioning. either the tab on the lamp door is broken off, the actuator on the switch is off, or the switch itself is broken. the lamp won't light if it thinks the door is open.

Sony VPL CS6 in darkness !

Make sure the interlock switch is activated by the cover of the lamp.
Can't measure a voltage with the lamp cover open. High voltage is powering the lamp from an smps or ballast supply. If lamp is New, cover switch is good, then the lamp power supply could be faulty.
