How to removed Lamp/cover error of Sony VPL-EX5 projector?

Take the lamp cover back off. Check the mechanism that the projector uses to sense the door. It might be a small pressure switch. Check whatever triggers the mechanisms is still attached to the door and hasn't broken off.

How do I open it for troubleshooting? I need to look inside for a blown component. Projector popped while using it and light went out suddenly. I have testedf with a new lamp but no go.

first pop the focus ring of the lens assy using a wide flat head. remove 8 screws on the bottom,2 or 3 on the rear. pry the bottom of the front bezel away from the bottom of the projector being careful not to damage the tabs that hold the bezel to the top. repeat the same for the rear bezel, disconnect the speaker and the keypad from the top cover and remove the top cover. most likely the pop you heard would be the glass fuse on the power supply on the side next to the lamp door, but also could have been the power input board next to the on/off switch, OR the lamp may have exploded.

Color wheel replacement

good times here--take the front and rear bezels off and remove the top cover. remove the power input board and power supply. next remove the metal shield covering the bottom of the projector to expose the main board. next, cut the ribbbon cable as close as you can to the color wheel. remove the color wheel leaving the cut ribbon behind. Now, carefully set the new color wheel in the general area and tape the new cable to the cut cable. Next pull the cut cable out of the main board paying careful attention to which way the cable was plugged in. Now pull the new cable thru and remove the tape and the old cable, plug it in, install the new colorwheel and put your projector back together with the exception of the front and rear, turn it on and make sure the color wheel spins, if it kind of just jumps, it means you plugged the cable in backwards. also when you test to see if it works, make sure the lamp door is shut so the safety switch is pushed in, otherwise the projector won't light.

Remote won't turn on projector

if the buttons don't work or the leds are not on the projector, it has a power problem. make sure the outlet for the projector is functioning. if still nothing, the bimetal breaker on the projector may have tripped due to overheating. you'll need to remove the top cover. the bimetal has a small red button and is located on the lamp housing. push in the button to reset it. also make sure that the lamp door and the lens cover are completely installed and that the blue switches for them are not broken. this will also cause it not to turn on.

Optoma EP719 Projector Won't Power Back On

When you first replaced the bulb it went back on and then later it did not. Most projectors have a safety switch that it is activated upon the bulbs cover placed. Once the cover is removed it activates the switch and shuts down power to bulb. It sounds based on your remarks, that this switch may have intermitten problems. I would suggest, locate this switch and verify its operation. Or, make sure the bulb cover is placed and/or secured properly.

No Power

The problem with the bulb cover interlock(safety switch) tab is that it is molded with the plastic cover. When these projectors are ceiling mounted upside down, the heat from the bulb melts the interlock tab and causes it not to actuate the interlock switch. 5e5b596.jpg If you push the switch arm in you can hear the switch click. The fix I did on my projector was to bend the switch arm so that it stays actuated. You can use a small set of needle nose pliers or two small screwdrivers. be careful to only bend the arm in the middle, if you break the arm from the switch, you will have to go in and bypass the switch.... Just be carefull...
c0cb930.jpg After you bend the switch arm try to press it in, if you did it right you won't hear the click. install the lamp, cover, and your done.

Remove the top cover?

Hi amp422

At the bottom and on the sides of the Projector there should be screws that can be taken out.

Unscrew these and you should be able to open up the unit.
