If you're looking to reinstall your operating system, you need to first turn on your computer and put the disc in the CD-ROM drive.
Then, turn your computer off. Turn it back on with the disc inside, and it should give you an option to "boot from disc" or something similar. Choose that option, and it will guide you through a step-by-step procedure to reinstall the operating system. This may take quite a while.

Reboot powerbook g4 17 inch without password

Use the install discs that came with the machine. Insert the disc 1, shut down the machine, turn it back on and press and hold the option key until the DVD icon shows. Then click on the icon and then click on the right arrow. When the disc boots you need to go to the top and find the disc utility folder. Then select reset password. Then choose restart.

Download a program called dban. http://www.dban.org/download and mount it on a disc with another computer. Place the disk in your computer and reboot. While loading look for the boot menu option and push the button. If you missed it reboot again. When the boot menu comes up select cd-rom drive or dvd-rom drive. The program should start up. Follow the directions on the screen by typing in autonuke. The program might run for a long time(probably overnight). After it is complete. Reboot you computer, take out the disc and reboot with your original XP Pro disc. Hope this helps.

Toshiba Tecra Notebook

INstall the hard drive, if the hard drive came with a cd, put the cd in the drive and boot the laptop. When you see it say "boot from cd hit any key" do so and follow the prompts. This software will "initialize" the disc and install for the first time. Once the disc is "officially" installed take the hard drive disc out of the drive and replace it with Operating Disc. Reboot the machine and again look for the "Boot from CD Hit any Key" hit any key and let the system load windows. You only have to hit the key one time when it says "hit any key" even if during the windows install, the system may reboot but it still may need the disc in the drive, if you see the heading "boot from cd hit any key" dont hit any key any more....just let windows finish loading. When windows finally reboots, sometimes up to three times, then you can take the disc out of the drive or take it out if the operating system instructs you to. Good luck, ParrotHead PC Repair

NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND AFTER I JUST LOADED XP HOME AND ALL THE UPDATES FOR IT ?

Put your windows disc in the drive and reboot. It should allow you to boot from disc and then you can install as per on screen instructions.
You have basically erased the hard drive and the OS
For future reference, just put your install disc in and reboot, you will be given an option of upgrade, or install. By installing you will automatically format the drive.

A blue screen just comes and stays on, what can I do? Darryl. I have a 12 inch ibook g4

Hi,
Bsod, 2 possibilities, hardware defect, and software problem,So check software.

Re-boot, keep tapping F8 while booting, enter black screen area, choose last known good, top 1

or, reboot again, F8 again, black screen, choose safe mode this time,

if/when booted, system restore, go back in time, re-boot.

or, Operating system disc in drive, reboot, when it says boot from disc, hit return, repair the o/s with the disc, (( care needed not to re-install ))

let it finish
reboot
test

I hope this helps

Installing windows XP - Error encountered

Can you reboot and get into windows or is now corrupt?

What do you mean by 'uninstalled XP'??

You cant uninstall it unless you format the drive, in which case the recovery discs are now probably useless as they rely on a folder on the HDD called i386.

Recovery discs normally dont have the OS on them, they rely on the I386 folder to gather info about the computer and then restores it to the state when it was new.

If you can acess the system, reboot and go into the bios and change the boot sequence to CD, then insert the first recovery disc. then save the settings and the computer will reboot and start the recovery process again, this should clear up the error.

If it does not it will be because the i386 folder is missing in which case you can either explore the recovery discs for it or you will have to buy a copy of Windows XP.
