Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Something in our hotpoint oven model rgb745 caught fire UNDER the bottom of the oven. I'm guessing it somehow went through a right side vent. It was extinguished and I removed the bottom panel. I discovered a five inch long by 1/2 inch wide stainless steel handle type thing that does not appear to connect to anything. It has a tiny hole in one end that makes it appear as though it once connected to something. I cannot see anywhere it would connect to however. I am afraid to try to light it again, not knowing where this came from. Any ideas???

Thanks Prince P, I could not see the picture that you sent. Could you please tell me more about the bake/broil burner. Can I turn on the oven with it the way it is?

  • caroljeann Aug 04, 2008

thanks again!! This was very helpful and reassuring that I won't blow the house up! I believe that I will take the part down to the parts dealer this week just to make sure that it isn't something important. I went ahead and baked dinner in it today, and it worked just fine.

Does the Picture looks like this?
It is normal that is what is called bake/broil burner: it is somehow connected to gas pipe that releases gas to oven ignitor

I am wondering how I'm supposed to light the pilot on a Hotpoint stove. I think I'm supposed to lift up the cooktop, but I can't get to lift up. It feels like its locked/screwed down somehow but I c

Hot point has 2 pilot lights on top... light them... then go to oven and light that one... it is a safety feature... no pilot on top kills the pilot in the stove.
.. since gas is heavier then air the company made sure if there was a gas leak on top that it would not be caught by oven and blow up.

Can't seem to access Hotpoint Stove Pilot Light? Also is there a second pilot light for the oven?

For the last 10 years or more there are no pilot lights on gas ranges. Modern ranges have an electronic igniter on the burners and a different type on the oven.

I am looking for a copy of the Owners Manual for this range

Here is the link to find all the model #'s that come up using the 6 digits you gave us. It should be a much longer model # to get a specific manual, so pick from the list the model # that is stamped on your actual range. Pull out the bottom drawer and look at the front left or right side. Douglas

Should my broiler turn on when I am preheating my oven this does not seem right to me and my oven caught on fire last night

Hi,
Yes the broiler will often turn on to help preheat the oven.
If it caught fire, it is not because of that, but because you have too much run over food in the oven. That is what caught fire. You need to clean it an NOT with the self clean!!

My hotpoint oven wont work!

It's possible that yourt-stat went out right after you turned the oven back on today. If neither your bake and broil elements will not come on, it's the t-stat control. We have parts for Hotpoint Ovens, so call us and we'll be sure to get the correct part out to you asap. We hope this solves your problem and we look forward to working with you.

Oven and broiler won't come on. Cooktop burners are fine.

Have you run the self-cleaning feature recently? I had a similar problem on my stove of the same model, and it was the switch that detects whether the oven latch is engaged (if it gets stuck and thinks the latch is locked, it will not ignite the main burner or broiler). An easy way to check if that's the problem: without touching the latch, turn the controls to Clean. If the burner lights, that is your trouble.
