Question about Kenmore Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Sears Kenmore Gas Dryer Model Number 110 72612101 Serial Number MM2606191 that appears to be over-heating. All my clothes come out smelling like burnt rubber and/or dry cleaning compound. If I put clothes in the dryer and button it up, ready to go the exhaust vent pipe gets so hot you can't touch it for any length of time. If I pull the lint filter or open the door and over-ride the saftey switch the dryer cools down but the smell remains. I think that it's the thermostat and what is actually turning the heat off and on is the Thermal cut-off. I'm looking for some type of verification before I rip into her for part numbers. Any ideas of possiblities that I haven't considered? Thanks so much!! DaN

I suspect the vent is the issue with your dryer. It sounds like the air is not moving to the outside well and is keeping the interior too hot. The filter housing may also be plugged. Make sure the vent is clear all the way to the outside. Be certain that the hose is not kinked or crushed behind the dryer and is as short as possible. You may change the operating thermostat as well.

Ok, first does the heat come on at all, if not,, make sure the gas if coming on, if it is, you need to check the thermostats, If its not, you need to replace the coils located on the gas valve itself it looks like this http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Kenmore-Parts/Dryer-Parts/694540/0026/110/Model-11074812200/0582/0151200?keySuffixId=NA&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=11074812200&subCompDesc=Burner%20assembly&brandDesc=KENMORE&modelDesc=GAS-DRYER&blt=11 that is the main one, and you have a second one too that should be replaced at the same time, it has 3 terminals, for a diagram of the burner assembly click on this http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-11074812200/0582/0151200?searchedModel=1107481220&blt=

Kenmore Gas Clothes Dryer does not heat sufficiently

Ok, first and foremost, make sure your vent is clean and clear.
If the vent is clean and free of obstructions the most likely culprit is your gas valve coils. When they fail the typical symptom is heat at the beginning of the cycle and no heat about 20 minutes later.
If you can, post the complete model number from the dryer and I will give you step by step tear-down and replacement of parts instructions.

I get black streaks like the rest of you.. I

it's not the drum,it's the felt pieces that the drum rides on, there is felt on the back of drum and theres a felt piece on the front bulkhead, they could be worn leaving a space letting the clothing slip through hitting the black rollers or something is falling through the space hitting the clothes next time send the model number so i can look up your dryer, the model number is around the opening where you put the clothes into the dryer, open the door and look around the opening and you'll see a tag with model and serial number

Clothes smell burndt after drying in a Kenmore gas dryer

Rule number one NEVER EVER use the top of your dryer to stack piles of clothes while in use. That is the main reason why dryers over-heat. Also clean out the exhaust tube to the exterior.

Gas dryer with gas smell and no heat

It sounds like your GLOW BAR gas igniter is bad. This is an electric powered heater coil that , when it glows red hot, ignites the gas burner. This part normally fails at least once during a dryers normal service life. If you are handy, you may be able to replace the part yourself. Otherwise, have a technician look at it. If you want to DIY, go to an appliance parts store . Remove and observe the GLOW BAR from your gas dryer. If one of the metal element appears to be burned open, replacement is necessary.. Show the part, along with your dryer maker, model, and serial number, to the store employee. This person can give you helpful info along with a new part. If the GLOW BAR is NOT burned out, seek out a technician.

My clothes smell burnt

If you have done any recent painting or drywall work, oftentimes the dryer will breathe these fumes and it will affect the smell of your clothes. (Just had the same problem) Maybe let the area air out and see if that corrects your problem
