Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500 gig won't connect

Hi and thanks in advance.
I have had the drive for a bit over 2 years with no problems, but now it won't connect. I am running Windows XP Pro. It says it has found a USB Device but needs to update the driver. Seagate says it doesn't need a driver. Says it is an XP problem. Ideas?
Thanks
Eric

Emas 1967.....

Was paroosing other furums trying to find out more about these drives and fell into the site below, first and then the problem you communicated. You may want to check here for a sollution--scroll all the way to the bottom first and then you can read from most recent to last post. If you have used yours without fail for 2 years it may not apply, as the other seemed to have a realatively early failure rate. Those failures seem to be heat related, but you can read further for yourself. GOOD LUCK!!

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Seagate Hard Drive Pro 500 GB not detected

You need to test it by connecting it to another computer. This is the cheapest, easiest way to test if it's working.
If it does not detect on another computer then you can get it replaced by seagate. All freeagent series of drives have a 5 year warranty on them, so your drive will still be under warranty.
However, bear in mind warranty will replace the drive but does not include recovering your data. If your data on the drive is important you will need to speak to either your mac specialist or a company specialising in data recovery who can assist you.
If however the drive works in another computer, then you have confirmation that it's only something on your computer that is giving the problem. You can try connecting to a different usb port if you have not already tried that.

You better check with the Seagate people. This seems to be a problem with the casing. And since you're under warranty, you can get a replacement.

Hard Drive Buzzing and Wont work (Seagate External Freeagent 1TB)

You are in trouble!
The buzzing sound is the heads trying to realign themselves at the beginning of the platter.
You could try putting it on a side and hope gravity helps.
But i'm afraid its broke beyond repair.
