Please find above your service manual, whoever services the unit, will find the manual invaluable.

Hi, well undoubtedly this is some component that until it is heated up to a certain temperature, will NOT work properly. However this in turn will ultimately fail, due to this.

Faults such as this can be very difficult to find, usually we use a can of freeze spray and either a directed heat gun or soldering iron, and one applies heat & cold to the suspected components and usually the culprit is easy found. Of course one has to have a fairly good idea of what components where, to start. but in any case one always starts at the Power Supply, check that these voltages are right, and work out.

These days DIY is not really practicable, primarily due to the instruments, and knowledge required to align and re-program the set, even the simple changing of a board, can require a re-setup before the set will work.

So, the very best thing you could do would be to contact either a local or head office of Sylvania, and ask for a referral to an authorised servicing center.

Now when in contact with them, first ask for a "Quote" as to the costs of the prospective repair.

This way you can make an informed decision as to repair or replace. Sometimes a seemingly straight forwards fault, may indeed end up costing nearly as much as a modern day new unit with a warranty.

I have a Sylvania LC370SS8 (37" LCD + DVD) TV. It will stay on for about an hour, then it shuts itself off. The power light flashes while it's off (for about 5-10 minutes) then it comes back on... and...

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

Universal remote

Universal remotes never work good anyway. You will need the original remote anyway to work the different functions for the TV.

The cheapest that I can find one for you is at NewRemoteControl.com, it's $32.95
