Here are the instructions to de-scale your Cuisinart SS-700, taken directly from the unit's manual, available here (

1. Empty the reservoir.

2. Disable the AUTO OFF and OFF TIME features.

3. Making sure there is no K-Cup in the brewing chamber, fill the reservoir with 60 oz. of undiluted white vinegar.

4. Place a large mug on the drip tray and run a Hot Water cycle. Select the 12 oz. brew size. Discard contents of mug.

5. Repeat the hot water process until ADD WATER is displayed on the control panel and the reservoir lights will flash.

6. Let the Brewer stand for at least four hours while still on.

7. Rinse the water reservoir thoroughly and fill with fresh water.

8. Run another Hot Water cycle. Discard contents of large mug.

9. Repeat hot water process until ADD WATER is displayed on the control panel and the reservoir lights will flash.

10. You may need to perform additional Hot Water cycles if you detect any residual vinegar taste.

Note: If DE-SCALE is still displayed on the control panel after completing the procedure, repeat the de-scaling procedure above.

De-scale message appeared. Followed instructions in manual. Product not working. Everything smells like vinegar. Now what???

you should have done whats below, it may need to be done twice...last but not have to put more fresh water in to remove the taste

The brewer should be de-scaled at least every 3-6 months. Scale is harmless, but if left unattended, it can hinder optimal brewer performance. De-scaling your brewer regularly helps maintain the heating element, removable water reservoir and other parts of the brewer that come in contact with water. Better water quality and water heating means a better cup of coffee, tea, hot cocoa or iced beverage. We recommend de-scaling your brewer at least every 6 months (every 3 months if your water has a high mineral content). The de-scaling process involves using 48 ounces of undiluted white vinegar.

Take 48 oz of white vinegar. place in tank. pretend you are making coffee (Do No Use K Cup). let the water fill you mug. then empty that mug. Do it again until tank is empty. then let sit for 4 hours.
Then fill with fresh water to the top. let that tank of water run thru. towards the end taste the water.
If you taste vinegar..use more clean water, until the taste is ok.

What does de-scale mean?

To de-scale anything in relation to water means to remove the mineral scale buildup on the walls or where ever. That's the usually white chalky stuff that you might see around nozzles etc. Follow yu manuals instructions to de-scale. Usually involving white vinegar, or possibly a product like CLR for removing minerals and rust stains. I AM NOT SAYING TO USE CLR IN YOUR MACHINE, just indicating an example of a product that manages mineral scale. Read the manual to do it correctly.

Water will not pass through....


I teied to find an answer for you and went to their website. Theys ay that the brewer needs to be descaled. The link below will bring you to thier site and I also pasted the excerpt below. It should still be under warranty too I think if you have only had it for six months. I pasted their number below.

De-Scaling Your Brewer:
Mineral content in water varies from place to place. Depending on the mineral content of the water in your area, calcium deposits or scale may build up in your Brewer. Scale is non-toxic, but left unattended, it can hinder Brewer performance. De-scaling your Brewer helps maintain the heating element and other internal parts of the Brewer that come in contact with water. The Brewer should be de-scaled every 3-6 months to ensure optimal performance or when there are white deposits in the Cold Water Reservoir. It is possible for calcium deposits to build up faster, making it necessary to de-scale more often. Please reference your Brewer’s Owner’s Manual for specific de-scaling instructions.

With the machine off remove the grounds bin ( leave it out ) the press & hold the cleaning button until the de-scale symbol flashes

White vinegar and a toothbrush. You can clean the whole steam path with 25% vinegar to 75% water. Steam it through. Run plain water afterwards to rinse it out.

I was able to fix the problem after reading your post.

I had lost my manual and found a copy of the instruction manual online.

I read the instructions for de-scaling (page 15) and followed it EXACTLY the way it instructed me to.

The entire process took roughly 2.5-3 hours. I set an alarm to remind me to re-dispense the solution again (for 15 seconds) every 10 minutes.

I'm not sure if you skipped a few steps(I did the first time I went through it). If anything, the trick might be to hold the hot water button for 6 seconds to disable the de-scaling alarm.

Your de-scaling alarm probably hasn't been de-activated. ( To make sure I held the hot water button for about 15 seconds)
