To recover the lost data it would be better to plug the hard drive to another computer and run a recovery software like Recuva to get the necessary files.

Laptop came with windows 7 factory installed on it. A friend accidently formatted the hard drive.

Either download an installer disk on to a DVD or partition a harddrive with an installer disk on it. Boot from that disk and restart the computer, it should boot up and ask to install Windows 7.

II want to clean my files

On Windows (anyway)... click my-computer...
Then select the drive of interest... right click it.
click properties..
there's a tab "Disk Cleanup"...

Select that..and you're good to go.

I'll make NOTE-- this will NOT NECESSARILY clean up everything..such as activity you may deem "innapropriate".. it'll clear a lot of things, but deletion is NOT ERASURE.. (meaning law-enforcement can, and will be able to recover said information).

Press F12 right after you turn the computer on, this should give you boot options, select boot from CD, press OK and you may get a prompt displayed to "Press Enter To Boot From CD" You should be good to go from there. I hope this helps. Good luck and have a pleasent day.

The hard disk is dead. To recover some of your files from it just boot from a Linux Live-CD like   http:pclinuxos.com/  and copy whatever you can recover to a USB memory stick.

Procedure:
Insert the bootable disk into CD-Rom and choose boot from the cd rom and now check your disk is detected or not, if detected follow the instruction and your all data could be recover with your complete partions.

My acer ZG5 does not start up there is a black screen and a message stating that there is no bootable device and to insert boot disk and press any key; I don't have a boot disk so how can I fix my problem....

The bootable device is your laptop's hard drive. This meesage usually appears when the hard drive has crashed or the Master Boot record is damaged. you can repair this if you see message that gives you an option to recover your hard drive, try turning off then turning on the laptop to see the option appear during the boot process. But the catch here is that you might not recover your personal files after the recovery. If you have important files in your Hard drive bring the laptop to a qualified technician to recover your files.

How do I install a SATA DVD drive in my 655A V1.0?

Hi stewwiles, If your bios does not see & list the drive neither will windows hardware manager/ device manager. Check your manual. Enter your bios. The DVD drive should be listed in the same menu as your hard disk drive. Than go to the title "Boot" in your bios & make sure your DVD is listed in the boot order. (List of normal boot order):
1st boot device= Floppy drive
2nd boot device= DVD drive (model no#)
3rd boot device= Primary hard disk drive (model no#)

Make sure your DVD's jumper setting is set to "Master".

Good luck!
