    Hi,

I am somewhat familiar with these mixers as I have replaced the worm gear in the K5SS model a few times. I know how how they come apart, but I don't know why the switch only works on one speed. I sent one down to a repair place in Denver before for the same problem and it cost me $150.00 and they didn't explain how they got the switch working.

    Hi Kelly,

Thank you so much for the service manuals. I'm sure they will be a great help in repairing these Kitchen Aid mixers. When I took off the end cover on the motor I found a spring with a short metal tube in the center which looks like it came off the governor, just like fig 23 on page 6 of the second link. I think there should be one more so I will look around when I get back to this repair. I'm so happy that I tried FixYa and I will certainly use this site again in the future. Take care Kelly.

I don't know yet for sure, but the link to the service manuals was wonderful and will be very helpful.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly,

This is caused by either the speed control switch, the motor control plate or the motor. At the moment I really think it is either the speed control switch or associated wiring. This service manual is not and exact match for the RRK150 but the internal motor control parts are in the the same locations and the troubleshooting procedures are the same:

http://www.kitchenaidparts.be/centers/servicemanual/mixer.pdf
And the bigger model service manual with nice to know info:
http://downloads.mendingshed.com/KitchenAid_Service_Manual.pdf

Motor and motor control tests start on page 14 of the first link.

Also make note of the spring for the speed control in figure 50 page 18.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

    Hi Alan,

Maybe the RRK150 is slightly different from the KSM models but as far as I know there is only one spring on the governor.

I had the gut feeling that you had been down an ugly repair road before and were some distance from a service center. Hence, you now have the service manuals. Hopefully with the information you now have in hand you can keep it going. If you have more than one... use the 2nd operational one as an example for routing and connection of the spring. (Just a thought)

    Take care,

    Kelly

You have to take the pin out from right above where you put the beaters on, and then you can tap the circle part off, and get into the inside.

If you need additional details or parts replecement, look in this link site: shared.whirlpoolcorp.com

Hope helps.

Tripped circuit & heard pop on KA Artisan Mixer #RRK150 while using pasta press attachment. Now doesn't run. Fixable OR replace?

probably fixable. The load of the pasta press may have blown an internal fuse or overheat thermostat, taking the breaker with it. Open it up and take a look.

Is this a Kitchen Aid? Is it possible to buy this circuit board from somewhere?

This is a kitchen aid. BUT!!!! it is an international model that was sold in countries with 220 volts. Look underneath the mixer for a white tag it should have a model number and a serial number, if you can get us those numbers then we can help with the parts. Hope this helps.

How to replace the speed control plate

Take the back cover off, remove the wires. Unclip the spring from the bottom of the plate, don't let it fly back inside the housing. Unlock the 2 screws at the top and undo them. Fit the new plate, each screw 8 turns in to start with. Hook up the spring, put on the wires where they came from. Start machine on speed one, and adjust the top screws evenly to give the planetary 13 to 15 revolutions in 15 seconds. Lock the screws up with the lock nuts. The screw at the bottom is then adjusted so that it gives a slight speed increase when you enter speed 2 from speed 1.
