Question about Car APS25CH Prestige 2 Button Remote Security System with Shock Se

1 Answer

I have a Prestige APS25CH system installed in my Jeep Cherokee. I cannot turn off the alarm with either the remote or the valet switch. I get a constant alarm and no alarm LED. Opening the door stops the siren, and turning on the ignition stops the siren, but no matter what I do, the car won't start...the ignition, door locks, and power windows are all dead. I suspect a major failure, but can't even start the car to take it to a shop.

Thank you for your reply. I have the programing instructions, and have tried to reprogram the remote. The system won't reprogram, and doesn't even seem to be responding to either the remote or valet switch.

That sounds like something would fit my problem. I'm am trying to de-power the whole system, so that I can at least drive it. If I figure out how to cut the power to the system, will I then be able to start the engine?

  • bobmacnicol Mar 22, 2011

I understand that, I've already tried the battery reset technique, so I know that won't work. But my car is at my home, and because of this problem, I can't start it to drive it to a shop to have someone use the "specific tool".

So my question to you is: If I find the main power wire for the system, and disconnect it, will I then be able to start the car?

  • bobmacnicol Mar 22, 2011

I have the wiring diagram. I see that the yellow wire is probably the power-in wire. I guess I'll disconnect it and see what happens. Since the car won't start, it can't be any worse than what I have now.

    ZJLimited,

Since it was rather strange, I thought you might like to know the outcome of my problem. It was the Jeeps battery. My remote had developed a hair-trigger, and apparently just before I tried to start the engine, I accidentally hit the remote button. Then when I tried to start the car, that killed the battery, and with the battery gone there wasn't enough voltage available to shut off the alarm. After two days of head-scratching I replaced the battery, and was able to shut down the alarm with the valet switch. Whew! That one had me goin'!

It's not as simple as "reset" the vehicle's ECU (by disconnecting the battery connections), you may need a specific tool to reset the security module of the vehicle, insist that before doing so ask someone you trust in workshop alarms.

I suggest ask for the aftermark alarm wiring diagram or check in the repair manual from your Jeep Cherokee; what year is your Jeep? I'll try to look some electrical diagram.

I bought my car used with an aftermarket prestige alarm w/ remote start. Battery and alternator went bad. They have been replaced. The car will not turn on and alarm remote is not working.

Locate a black push button switch under the dash or near the drivers side kick panel (older model), or the alarm has a push button LED light(newer model) or the Valet switch is in the antenna(newest model). Turn the ignition on, press and release the switch one time. This should disarm the alarm.

For programming: turn ignition on, press and release the valet switch three times: you will hear one chirp from the alarm, press the lock button on the remote. Press and release the valet one time, you will hear two chirps from the alarm, press the unlock button on the remote. Repeat as necessary. Turn igniton off to exit programming. Test remote for proper functioning.

Locate the valet switch( black push button), turn ignition on, press and release valet switch. the valet switch is plugged onto the main control unit. You can find the main control unit by tracing the harness that you unplugged from the shock sensor. The valet switch is plugged into a two pin plug and has a blue end. Trace the wire to the valet switch.

How to disable or reset a Prestige car alarm. Purchased a used car with an after market Prestige alarm installed. Alarm somehow tripped and shut off the ability to start the car. I can't find a valet...

The valet switch,on the newer Prestige alarms, is a push button LED or, it's incorporated into the antenna. In both cases, turn the key to the on position, then press and release the valet switch. The alarm will respond with two chirps confirming that it is disarmed. You may now start the vehicle. After you successfully disarmed the alarm, turn the key to on position, press and hold the valet switch for approximately 5 seconds, the LED will come on solid. Turn the key off.The alarm is now in valet. You can take it out of valet in the same manner.

look for your valet switch. It should be under the dash(a little red button). put the key in the ignition, turn all the way until the instrument cluster lights on, then press on the valet switch for a couple of seconds until you hear the alarm chirp. You're now in valet mode and it should be ok to start the cart.

How do I disarm a audiovox prestige car alarm?

Locate the valet/override switch (button), (if you can't locate it, try tracing the wires under the dash from the main unit, usually a black and gray or black and red set of wires). Turn key to "RUN" position then press the button, the alarm's LED should light up solid at this time indicating valet mode as been set.

The car arms but the alarm does not chirp

try turning your key on and flip the valet switch, your alarm is most likely in valet mode (youll know cause the led stays on) if that doesnt work, turn the key on and off then toggle thye valet switch 3x and that'll turn off silent mode. Good luck, Martin @ lessco electronics
