Question about Mitsubishi WS-65611 65" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I have a WS-65611 that I have replaced the caps on the DM board. Before I did that, the power LED flashed non stop, Now it does the normal 70 seconds but when I attempt to turn it on, it shuts right back off. After attempting a power up I checked the error code I got a short protect error. I then removed the DM again and verified the caps were not shorted to the shield and checked the pico fuse and found everything to be good. Any ideas of where I should start looking??

If unplug the set and plug it back in and check for error codes without hitting the power on, I get no errors(1-2 normal operation). I only get the error after attempting to turn on the TV.

  • c3gc4 Mar 21, 2011

The DM power or the main power board. I'm guessing main since the DM seems to boot fine.

  • c3gc4 Mar 22, 2011

I looked at the power schematic and the 5V line does not go to many place until it goes to the convegence schematic. I also don't see a 5V standby line. Is it labled something else? The schematics I obtained are copyrighted 2002.

Did you run the error code operational check? In not unplug the set and plug it back in. Press and hold the DEVICE and MENU buttons for 5 seconds and release. The LED should flash a certain number of times a short pause and another series of blinks. Count the number of blinks before and after the pause, and let me know.

I do think the short protect error is still there. The first thin you should check would be the status of all the components on the 5V line of the power board. THis is where the shorts occur most of the times

The main one. Since its not recognizing the source of the problem the first thing I would check is the 5V standby line.

I remember seeing it the one I had. Hang on I will check the schematics I have and get back to you

Ok. Mine looks similar to what you have described. Assuming you have the same version of service manual as I do, check the 12V and 24V lines. The components on the red lines are your active test points in standby mode. EX check for 24V on the diode D9A64. If it does not have the voltage go backwards testing the easy stuff like the diodes first and see where the voltage is dropping. Based on your observations we can localize the problem to one particular circuit and find the source of the problem

The power wet off and now the timer green light is flashing and it wont turn on model # ws 55511

Thats caused by the 7 capacitors on the DM power board. They discharge when the power is lost and then cannot recharge when power is restored and the indicator light will blink non stop indicating the DM has not completed the boot sequence. Replace the DM caps. The WS48511 - WS65511 DM repair kit is the correct repair kit for your model. You can get the repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com

The power went out yesterday. When came back on couldnt turn tv on. The timer indicator on front of tv is flashing green and I dont know how to reset. Can you help? The tv is WS-73711

Thats a very common problem caused by weak capacitors on the DM board. When power is lost the caps discharge and when the power is restored they cannot recharge so the timer led will blink non stop. You can get the DM repair kit for your model from www.tvrepairworld.com it contains the upgraded capacitors and the CD with repair instructions.

Ws-55511 DM 5volts draged down blinking led

Hello,

Did you check the caps on the DM board? They usually go bad after a period of time. Remove the DM board and the metallic cover and there should be 4 to 7 capacitors (There are different revisions of the DM board). Check these caps also, replace if needed.

Thank you,

HD 1080 Mitsubishi Blinking

The constant blinking green light means that the TV is not booting up. This is a common problem on this set.You need to remove the shield from the DM board (standing upright on the left where the DTV RF connector is)and inside you will see the four leaky capacitors (1000 MFD 16 VOLT)replace them, plug the TV in and wait 70 seconds for the blinking light to stop, then turn on the TV.The hard part will be removing the board from the TV(lots of screws and connectors, takes time)

a3d2d2a.jpg You must do some checks first:LED does not stop blinking after plug in. Verify the standby supplies, 12-volts at connector KA pin 17, 6-volts at KA pin 18 and the 28-volts at KA pin 19, if the supplies are present suspect the DM PCB part # 934C067001 LED does not stop blinking after plug in. Check C9B01, C9B02, C9B10, and C9B11 (1000 UFD 16) on the DM PCB, if they are bad replace them with part # 181P734030 (680 UFD 16 V). LED stops blinking after 70 seconds of plug in but will not power on. This model is equipped with a keyboard lock feature; this can be mistaken as a no power condition. To unlock the keyboard press and hold the "menu" button on the front panel for 10 seconds . LED stops blinking after 70 seconds of plug in but will not power on. Check for 3.2 volts DC at connector RF pin 4 and 5 on the Signal PCB if low suspect problems with the switches/buttons on the Control PCB part # 935D736001. LED stops blinking after 70 seconds of plug in but will not power on. Keyboard is not locked and key inputs at connector RF pin 4 and 5 check good suspect the E2P PCB part # 934C061001.

Shuts off and has problems comming on

TV shuts off if it gets cold, this is the symptom of "cold solder" in power supply section and also in DM board section.needs to reworks or resolder the solder joint.

Mitsubishi sets are notorious for leaking caps. These are the black caps labeled "Nichicon" and sometimes "Rubycon". They are easy to spot because the negative leg has what appears to be dark acid leaking down, the board has a circle of discoloring around the cap and sometimes the copper trace on the other side of the PC board is all black and contaminated. If you know what you are doing, you can remove all of these caps, clean up the board and replace with quality caps, and this usually solves the problem.

1. Check for no 8.4 volts DC at pin 3 of PC9A10 on the Power PCB, if low or missing replace PC9A10 part # 268P058020. 2. LED does not blink at plug in. Check for 3.3-volts DC at connector RF pin 3 (system reset) if low or missing suspect the reset switch S7L20 part # 432P109010 on the Control PCB. 3. LED does not stop blinking after plug in.
