Question about HP Pavilion zt1170 Notebook

1 Answer

My hp zt 1170 battery will not recharge in the notebook, I have removed and replaced it. I saw that I needed to update my bios and tried the bootable floppy drive I downloaded to update by BIOS but when I hit the "ESC" button, as directed, when the HP logo appears, nothing happens and the machine continues on to windows. 1. Do you know of a fix for the battery problem? 2. Is it the BIOS update and how can I make the computer read the bootable floppy if not by using the "esc" button on startup?

Try tapping the F12 key during boot. That should bring up a menu of bootable devices. Select the floppy drive.
You can also change the boot order in the BIOS.

Make *absolutely sure* you are plugged in when you flash the BIOS!

Compaq Presario CQ62 faulty BIOS or not!?

Your computer will not start up with out a BIOS working, it starts the hard drive and loads the operating system.

The CMOS memory stores parameters which are updated by the operating system. Hence it needs a battery to keep the parameters. It also needs the operating system to make any necessary changes to start up again.

I do not know your full model number, but this utility will check if your pc is bootable.

My hp pavilion entertainment notebook pc keeps turning off i dont think its over heating it has to be something else ,, i turn it on and it will stay on for like 1 min or less and it will turn back off...

Reasons for that may be :
1. Bad battery - replace it.
2. Wrong power saving settings - you can set it according to your operating system's control pannel.
3. You may have a virus - if you run windows, try booting to safe mode by pressing F8 at the early boot stage and check if the computer still shuts down after 1 minute. If not, you need to run a virus checking software to try and find the malicious code that causes this.

How to make boot able disk of SP42854 bios update. Can't get bios to take flash.

I would liek to inform you that, no need to make any bootable disk to flash the BIOS. Most of the DV9000 series notebook BIOS update is Winflash means it can be install just by double clicking the softpq.
and follow the onscreen instactions.

I've precisly the same problem, but mu battery reaches 15% or so, but then the orange led goes of, and the laptop says there's no battery present. It is probably a problem with your BIOS, and in needs an update, but you'll need a Floppy drive to update the BIOS.

Hp pavillion zt 1170

Hi,

I am pretty sure you have a corrupted operating system here, or have somehow gotten corrupted video drivers. Boot to safe mode and change the video drivers to Microsoft VGA Generic and reboot and see if that fixes it, If it does, you can experiment with installing updated drivers for that machine available on the HP web site.

Also run a disk check on all drives; sounds like you might have some data loss.

If this does not fix it, consider reinstalling the operating system and then patching it to the highest level possible.

If reinstalling the OS does not work, you might have hardware problems with the screen or motherboard, though this is pretty rare, and is a different matter to troubleshoot.

Good luck...
