Question about LG LWHD1209R Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have an LG Model LWHD1209R window air unit in a opening of the wall. The outside of the air conditioner is in an open brick wall. The inside of the unit is in a class room. The air conditioning unit currently sits in this wall opening on top of a old metal tray. The window is leaking and needs repair. I am also looking for a new tray to sit the unit on. I am having a hard time finding it. I do not know the proper name for the tray that the air conditioner sits on. I appeciate your assistance. Thank you, Eileen

It's called a condensation tray (depending on what part of the world you're in). Generally, they are a custom made add on. If you have one made, have the metal shop put a drain hole near the rear of the tray/pan, that has a short section of copper pipe attached to it. That way, you can connect a hose to it to drain the water to the ground (if feasible). If not, at least away from the window frame.

Hope this helps you solve the problem.

Hi there, I have a LG ac through wall/window unit LWHD1200FR 11,500 BTU. It's have a Open vent/Close vent mechanism by the front louver from where the cool air comes out. I would like to know what...

The OPEN is to be used when the air temperature is cool enough, not to have to use the AC. When it's open, the fan continues to operate and pulls cool air in from the outside and circulates it inside the room. Generally, this is only used at night, when temperatures are milder and there's less humidity. When it's CLOSED, the AC is in cooling mode and only the inside air is used to cool and is exhausted as needed. Hot, humid days & nights are when it should remain closed.

I hope this helped you & thanks for choosing FixYa.

LG LWHD1800HR window air conditioner/heater does not heat fully.

It's 115volt and is a heatpump, these units work best above 40 degrees. They only put out between 95 and 105 degree air. The colder it gets outside, the less heat ya'll are gonna get.

Emerson quiet kool wall air conditioner. Should vent be open to remove humidity?

No - opening the vent will allow unconditioned outside air into the space and add to the humidity load.

Think of it like your car's A/C - when you put the controls to "Max A/C" the system recycles just the air inside the car and doesn't use any outside air. When the control is set to normal A/C, some outside (fresh) air is brought in.

The same thing is true for a window A/C unit. Keeping the vent closed will help the unit de-humidify and cool the air more quickly.

What is purpose of pull lever on top right of decorative panel

It's an air intake vent damper. If you push it in, the unit won't pull any air from outside, instead it'll recirculate air from the room. If you pull it outward, it allows the unit to pull air from outside. During the day when it's hot outside, the lever should be pushed into the closed position to allow for more efficient cooling. At night, if you want to exchange air from outside when it's cool enough, pull out the lever to allow that to happen. The unit will exhaust hot air no matter if this switch is in or out.

Make sure that the unit is properly mounted in the opening (I take it it's in a window) and that it is level or at least not tipping inward as in the outside being higher than the inside. If unsure about how to mount it properly, consult your owners manual. Your installation should be reasonably close to the illustrations.

Does the Frigidaire FAC 126P1A need to be vented?

It must be installed in a window openeing or through the wall.
A load bearing wall is no problem.
Cutout the opening larger than the unit and install a header in the wall cutout.

Through the wall vs. window installation

I just purchased an alleged "window mount" air conditioner with the closest dimensions to the existing model. Do these mount as through the wall as well? My current opening = 18 x 26" the new purchase is 16 27/32 x 26.

There are 2 different types of window air conditioners – there are the window type of which will fit in a window that opens top to bottom and there is the slide in model of which the actual air conditioner will slide into a metal sleeve which is very common in apartments. In either case you need to measure the inside of the metal sleeve and then give that to the air conditioner dealer and he will know what to do and there is also a POS (point of sale) @ the store of which will also assist you in the measurement of the A/C unit – the window unit you need to measure the opening of the window itself, I hope this was helpful

Humidity

An air conditioner of this type always has standing water sitting in the base-tray of the machine as it's running. They're designed to work that way. However, if the unit leans slightly in toward the inside of your house, then the water in the tray can be deeper than it should and/or add extra humidity to the inside air. These units are designed to be installed so that they lean slightly to the _outside_ of the window or wall-hole where they are mounted. This way the standing water drains off to the ground outside and isn't so deep on the inside of the unit that it adds too much humidity to the inside air. Check the mounting of this unit to make sure it leans slightly toward the outside. Also verify that any notch or drain hole on the outside end of the unit, intended to guide draining water, is not clogged with debris (which could also cause the standing water in the unit to be at too high a level). Also verify that the "vent" is closed, if this unit is equipped with said vent opening. An open vent panel can allow humid outside air inside as the unit is running. Hope this helps! ;)
