First, you need to learn what sound card your PC has.

Go to start menu/my computer/(right click) properities -> device manager. there you should find the name of the sound card listed among other hardware.

If you have the exact name, search for the company's website. On the website you should find a tab "support" where they let you download the official drivers.

hope that helps

How do i download the next upgrade after windows XP professional for free?

Why up grade if XP Pro is working fine???????? The only time to up grade is when your existing OS is not compatible with some program you wish to run. Other than that you should stay with XP.

If you have to "upgrade" your best bet is Win 7 but that is a clean install, not an upgrade. Stay away from Vista, Win 8.1, 10 lest you have horrific issues with convenience, compatibility and/or drivers.

OS is Windows XP Professional, my cd drive cannot read the data stored on a DVD disk. My driver is HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4482. Thank you

Windows XP is no longer supported, you should up-grade to Win 7 or buy a new computer. As for the DVD that it can't read, try it on a friend's computer and see if it works. If it does, your DVD/CD drive is defective or there is a software driver issue which means you can't receive support from Micorsoft.

I cannot install School house rock 3rd and 4th grade

There are workarounds besides using an older version of Windows (dual boot or a separate machine). This requires a licensed version of the older Windows OS. However, if you have the most common version of Windows 7 - Home Premium x64, you'll have to spend some money.

School House Rock - 3rd and 4th Grade works with Win98-XP. So, you can run a virtual computer with the older version of the Windows OS. Then install the School House Rock program into the virtual version of Windows as if it were the only copy of Windows. If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, or upgrade to one of these versions, you can do this for free. Download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft (in order). Other virtual computer programs are VMWare and Parallels. However, with those, you need to buy the program and have a licensed version of the Windows OS.

If you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can try the compatibility mode. (To check your version, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. If the title of the OS ends with x64, you have the 64-bit version. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit version.) If you have the 32-bit, right click on the installer for the School House Rock software. Select Properties and then the Compatibility Tab. Check the Run this program in the compatibility mode and an older version of Windows. Then click Apply and then OK. Right click on the installer again and select Run As Administrator. You may need to repeat this for the program itself.

I hope this helps.

I have a emachines EL1300G-02w and need to restore my OS, can you assist?

If it has XP O/S the first thing I would do is up-grade to windows 7 or windows 8 RP. I have the same machine and I up-graded memory to 4 gig and put a 250gig HD in it and I'm running windows 8 Release preview and it works great.

My Integrated ethernet not recognized by windows 7 after fresh install. I have a Shuttle XPC SN85G4 version 3 Barebone System

Hello,

Even though your system was built around the AMD 64-bit processor, the componets are still 32-bit hardware. Windows 7 is a 64-bit based os. You can perform a windows update to try to download the latest drivers for your system. Also, visit Shuttle support website for more information about Window 7 drivers.

Worst case scenero, reinstall Windows XP/Vista.

Good Luck

Downgrading from a newer OS to an older OS is always the problem in finding the correct drivers for your hardware.

In order for Fixya to help, kindly let us know your PC model and we will try to locate the generic drivers needed for your hardware.

Down grade windows 7 to xp pro on toshiba l505 s5990 need wifi and lan drivers

In my view, you should not downgrade Windows 7 to Windows Vista! Windows Vista is a freaky OS and don't support many software tools ! Later you will upgrade yourself! Try Windows XP, not Vista! :)

My shuttle pc gets part way through booting windows xp then makes clicking noise and gives up. Rebooting in safemode causes it to get partway through the xp files and then stalls

Sounds like you might have a bad CPU. If possible, try another hard drive in the system (just to eliminate the possibility of a bad hard drive) first, but my guess is the CPU.
