The fridge and freezer both have stopped cooling any suggestions?

  • dattopete Mar 08, 2009

I too Have a RJ532 V fridge which has stopped cooling properly. Removed the freezer components and defrosted them, as I believed the airflow was being blocked between the fridge and freezer. But still no luck, freezer would be barely 0 degrees and the fridge isn't cooling at all. Any suggestions, faulty thermostat? Motor seems to be running.

My virtuos freezer is not cooling properly. There is no cool air coming from the top airflow vents yet compressor/fn is running..

  • dpartridge Apr 14, 2009

The Fridge does not seem to be cooling.....nothing is actually cold.

I placed a thermostat in the fridge and there has only been a drop of 2C from the original 23C when I placed it in the fridge.

The Freezer seems to be working fine however.

    Any ideas?

I have the same fridge (stainless steel virtuoso) and when the fridge section stops cooling you have to turn power off. Then remove everything from the freezer including the shelf. Next get a pointy object and remove the two plastic screw covers located on the back inside plastic freezer panel, Next remove the two phillips head screws securing the panel in place. Next (and this is a little tricky) get two solid forks and lever the back interior panel off, thereby exposing the cooling system of the fridge. Next get a hairdryer and completely defrost this item, and then reassemble. Switch power back on and your fridge will be fixed, and cooling like a champion! plus you have saved hundreds by not paying ripoff "technicians" I have to do this every six or seven weeks because of the high humidity here in Darwin, the freezer is "frost free" but the cooling system still ices up, and this is what blocks airflow and stops the fridge cooling.

Thanks so much for your info. We're in a real fix to put it mildly. We sold a business and the buyers didn't want any food which was incredible but we had to accomodate a lot of meat and frozen packs. A good friend with a s/h shop lent us a westinghouse virtuoso and we're wondering whether it's worth buying from him. Is it OK on power? We'll need a freezer anyway.

SOURCE: fridge not cold freezer ok

More then likely your problem is that its not defrosting correctly in the freezer and the ice has built up behind the panel and not allowing the cold air down into your refrigerator.

SOURCE: Westinghouse Virtuoso Fridge - Circuit Diagram

If it is kicking the circuit breaker out in defrost mode, then the defrost timer is faulty. It would be best to just replace the timer instead of checking the wiring schematic. Look at www.partstoday.com for helpful illustrations on parts and identifying pictures.

SOURCE: Fridge/freezer beeping

There is a lever switch usually above the door (when door is in open position) on the fridge cabinet. Not on the actual door. The beeping should stop if this lever is pressed. If the door is positioned correctly it would depress this lever when closed. It may be that the door adjustment is slightly out. If the beeping does not stop when depressed, then your printed circuit board (located usually above the door) is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Westinghouse virtuoso fridge is freezing. adjusting temp on door panel doesn't work.

Is the fan operating in the freezer section? If not there is your problem. It the fan is working then it could be the damper or the temperture control.

sounds like you have a blown defrost element on the back panal of the fridge if they blow then excess ice builds up and the unit stops chilling correctly have the defrost elements tested if you know how to use a mulitimeter try testing the elements as you would a fuse
