My 1990 Cadillac Eldorado 4.5 lt isn't getting fuel to the intake delivered by the throttle body. I've replace a number of parts, I turn the key and the car turns over, yet won't start on its own, If I spray the throttle body with Starter Fluid or pour small amount of fuel into the throttle body it will start temporarily.My car is not equipped with a camshaft sensor. What activates the injectors? Fuel is going through the rail and emits from the fuel pressure release value when tested with a small screwdriver. To no avail I can't see, to be able to diagnose the problem.Not sure how to go about further to pint point the problem. Can you assist me?Kindly email me:

Hi Dave, Lets start with the battery. In order for the engine to turn over the battery needs to be at least 10 volts. However for the computor to function that is also the aprox. voltage that it will get confused and not know what to do. So if you battery is 4 or more years old I would replace it with the heavy duty battery that had around 770 CCA/cold cranking amps or more. If the battery is newer then something could be on and draing power after the key has been turned off. If you can remove the battery autoparts stores can test them for free and then you will know good or bad. Call ahead to make sure your parts store offers that service. If you have a voltmeter that reads DC volts make sure the scale can read at least 15VDC and touch the red lead to the battery positive and the black meter lead to the negative and see what it reads. A good battery will read 12.6V but 12 volts or more is good. Try starting the car in neutral. Maybe the neutral safty switch has burned contacts in park. Or with your foot on the brake hold the key in start and slowly move the shifter from P to OD and see if it starts. The n/s switch could be out of adjustment.

If there is a Cadillac theft system there should be a light on the dash that will flash. If so then maybe the starter interrupt relay is bad and needs to be changed. It mounts below the steering column and has 4, yellow, yellow, black/yellow.Try also to check for burned fuses.

Where is the throttle position sens or located on 1990 xj6

Never worked on one, but it should be right next to where ever the throttle cable attaches to the intake. The TPS should be next to the throttle blades. This car should be old enough to have a throttle body of some sort. Beware some luxury cars like cadillac have a TPS relearn sequence that involves turning the key on and off and waiting a set number of seconds between cycles.

My 1993 cadi deville keeps flooding. gas fills-up in carbator when I turn key on. What's this?

first, the 1993 cadillac deville should have a throttle body not a carburetor. And, I think it has ported fuel injection to each cylinder with a fuel injector for each cylinder if it's like my 1990 Cadillac Deville.

Dis connect the battery. You have to remove the intake to gain access to the starter motor.Once you remove the intake the starter motor is in the vally.Be careful of the throttle body not to brake the duct from the throttle body to the intake. Hope this helps

'89 Eldorado starts fine but dies

It take two people to find out if it has sparkplug fire. If it is not getting any fuel you may pour a small amount into throttle body and see if it will start if you have spark. If you turn it over trying to start it you should see the injectors squirting fuel down into it.
