Backlight not turning on when phone is turned on (Razr)

Whenever i turn my phone off and back on, the backlight won't turn on.

I can still recieve calls, turn up my volume, and do anything else i regularly could, it's just that the screen won't turn on (thus limiting my ability to really do anything).

Turning the phone on and off can take hours (if not days) before the backlight eventually decides to turn back on.

I think it may be a battery problem...but i have no idea.

when i turn the phone on 13 out of 15 times the screen is black but i can hear it turning on and can still use speed-dial can still turn it off. 1/15 times it turns on displaying the manufacturers logo but freezes it also displays the logo on the outside screen to but i flip it close and it goes black like the other 13 times... the other time it boots as if it were working fine but if i: 1) flip it closed, 2) dont use it before the backlight dimms..... it yet again blacks out... i believe that it was messed up when i charged it using a moto charger, turns out it wasnt for the phone but for something like a bluetooth headset... any help here would be appreciated.

There is a small cable, inside the phone, near the hinge, that can come loose or unplugged. You should have this checked out by someone who can service it. For them it's a simple procedure of reinserting the cable fully.

I had a pink razor and i would turn my phone on and off a thousand times and the screen would be anywhere from blank and white to multicolored dots. So i took it to my verison store and when the guy looked at my phone he said it was water damage... I never dropped my phone in water and he said it could be something as simple as talking on your phone in the rain. I could still recieve calls and when the screen would work i could use it normally but if you look at the battery and there's a red circle/dot thing it's probably water damage.

The display quit working.

The CP backlights got the problem, try uninstall and install a new light bulb on the phone.

The CP still ok, just only replacing the backlight,

Backlight display not working

Hey Dannes1956,

The Motorola V3m has a light sensor, which is visible just above the right soft key -- the key above the CLR button. This light sensor turns the backlight on when you press a key in the dark and disables the keypad backlight when you are in a well-lit area.

Your phone sounds like it's operating normally. I believe they disabled the option to activate or deactivate that feature.

Hope this helps,
cHiPz.

Motorola RAZR V3 - Backlight

Try removing the battery for a few seconds then restart the phone. Other than that, it could be a defective switch on the phone that detects when it's closed. If it answers / hangsup when the opened or closed... the switch is good.

Broken backlight

if you open the v3 phone flip...you shall see 4 rubbers...remove the rubbers with a very small flat bit screw driver then unscrew the 4 screws in the phone then use the small flat bit onc more to open the phone cover, then remove the silver button on each side of the phone, unclip the cable leading to the camera and also the clip connecting to the lcd once those are removed then replace the old screen with the new one.
