Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.

You will need to log in to your router and set up the security settings. For specific details on the model you have, you should be able to go to linksys support, pick your model and look up the FAQ's or find an online manual. Often the back of your router will also say something like "unsername" and "password" with some details of the default settings to login and and start making changes.

SOURCE: hi i have the linksys

wusb54g is linksys wireless adapter that connects to a wireless router. Are you using a linksys router? If yes, open a browser, type in the router's ip (ex. default ip is 192.168.1.1 note: don't put www or http just the numbers - if you wan't to check the default gateway go to the command prompt type in ipconfig and look for the default gateway). it willl ask for a username and password, leave username blank and the default password is admin (note: it's case sensitive - all lower case). Once you're in the router's user interface, click on the wireless tab. First tab is basic wireless settings, just change the ssid or the network name to any name you want then svae the settings. Then click on wireless security tab(one of the sub tabs under wireless). If you select wep just use 64 bit encryption then just type any key word under passphrase then click generate, write down the code under key 1, that's your security key. or if you're going to select wpa for you're security you can type in alphanumeric code (atleast 8 characters, just make it all lower case, no space, no special characters) then save it. That's how you secure your network using a linksys router.

If you have forgotten your LinkSys router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.
To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds.
Once your router is hard reset, you will need to login and configure it again.
To reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it'sEthernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URLhttp://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router.
LinkSys Default Password
On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." While newer models, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."
Once you go past the login screen, you should be able to reconfigure the LinkSys router.
Here are some of LinkSys Router models along with its Default usernames:

Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Ethernet routers: Administrator
Linksys WRT54G, BEFW11S4: admin
Linksys Comcast routers: comcast
All other Linksys routers: {none}
Here are some of LinkSys Router models along with its Default passwords:
Linksys Comcast routers: 1234
Linksys BEFW11S4: {none}
All other Linksys routers: admin
For those [none] username/password entries listed above, no name or password is required. Just skip or press the Enter/Return key when prompted for those settings.

The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and putit in a safe place)

Where do i put hinternet connection cord at?

1. Go to Best Buy. Get a Linksys wireless router. Hook up your internet to the slot in the back that says INTERNET. Then attach an internet wire into slot 1. Plug the other end into your computer. Repeat with any other computers. Put the CD in any computer hooked up with the Linksys. Set it so wireless connections are allowed and set a password. Use the internet channel, wait until your Linksys pops up, and enter you password. You're good to go.

Note: I was talking about this Linksys: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/supp...

2. Get a $40 Wi-Fi adapter and hook it up to your computer (assuming it has internet). After setup, You will have Wi-Fi, but it has a tiny range. I recommend the router. The router has a MUCH larger range and costs $20-$120 depending on how fast and how large of a range you want. Any router will work as long as it's wireless.

You need to configure your router.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1

If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Then enable DHCP in both computer's network adapter tcp ip property so you not need to set manually ip for network.

Trying to connect a new laptop to my linksys wireless setup and I enter the WPA key and it says it is aquiring network address, but never does. What am I missing.

Stop and start over with Router Setup by using a paper clip to press router reset button. Now, with router connected via CAT-5 cable to a computer's NIC. On this computer, using IE or other web access, go to http://192.168.1.1 to access router web setup. Set the Wireless properties, such as SSID (Network Name) and Security properties, like WEP/WPA passwords. This password will be needed by all computers accessing this router's signal. At this point, your router should be putting out a signal identified by the SSID name, all other settings for the router should be set already to the point where it will work, like the IP addresses declared in the router setup. Best left alone, at least till it is up and running. It gets the network address from your Internet Provider, and they are the only ones that can give you an IP address.

Hi i have the linksys model wub54g router an adapter i would like to put a password on t stop other uses on my internet

U don't need a password. U need to set U'r router to a secure mode, not open ended. use WEP or other (64 bit or 128 bit) encryption. linksys allows U to select a paraphrase, example: "Love2Air" and it will generate a code, i.e. "7D23C678867". This will allow others to see that there is a wireless system, but they have to have the code to use it. U will have to have the code in your other wireless pc's in order to use the system. U can also tell the router what MAC address' (pc address') to allow or disallow to use the system.
A password is used to keep others out of U'r routers setup and changing U'r code or paraphrase. If U'r system gets highjacked, there is a reset on the router and everything will revert to the book defaults. Don't loose the book.

How To Set Up PPPoE DSL Connections with a Linksys Router

This article describes how to manually configure a Linksys Router for broadband DSL that uses PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) for authentication. For automatic configuration options, please try: 1. Linksys Easy Connect (see Answer ID 1650 for more information), or 2. The Linksys Setup Wizard CD-ROM software that came with your Linksys Router. Simply insert this CD-ROM into an online computer before connecting your Linksys Router, and the Wizard will provide step-by-step instructions on how to install and configure your router. If you are unable to set up your Linksys Router by using one of the above options, use the steps below to manually configure your router. NOTE: It is recommended that you print this article for offline reference. STEP 1: Before You Begin In order to set up your Linksys Router, be sure to first have the following: 1. A Linksys Router. 2. A DSL modem. 3. A working computer that can be wired in directly to the router for initial configuration and testing. 4. Two (2) standard Ethernet network cables. Linksys Routers come with one (1) standard network cable that you can use. 5. The PPPoE DSL username and password assigned by your Internet Service Provider. Depending on the provider, your username format might be similar to username, vzn123456, or an e-mail address (username@isp.net). If you are not sure what your username and password are, contact your Internet Service Provider for more information. STEP 2: Check Your Internet Connection Before installing your Linksys Router, it is important to first verify that you can successfully access the Internet by connecting directly to your modem (without your Linksys Router installed). 1. If you are connecting for the first time, follow the instructions provided by your provider to set up your modem and computer for online access. 2. Verify that you are able to access the Internet without any problems. If you are not able to get a connection, contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance. When you are able to access the Internet using your modem, continue to Step 3 and proceed with the installation of your Linksys Router. STEP 3: Connect the Hardware Follow these steps to connect your Linksys Router to your modem and computer. 1. Shut down your computer and unplug the power cords connected to your modem and Linksys Router if they are currently powered on. 2. Disconnect the network cable that connects to the back of your computer. 3. Connect the network cable that you just removed to the Internet port (or WAN port) located on the back of your Linksys Router. Your modem should now be connected to your Linksys Router. 4. Connect a second network cable back into your computer (into the same port that was disconnected in #2). 5. Connect the other end of the second network cable to one of the numbered ports located on the back of your Linksys Router (labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). Your computer should now be connected to your Linksys Router. The following diagram shows how your network should be connected. Verify that your connections are correct, and continue to the next step. 6. Plug the included power adapter into the router?s Power port. Then, plug the other end of the power adapter into a nearby electrical outlet to supply power to your router. 7. Turn on your computer. Do not turn on your modem at this time. Only your router and computer should be turned on for Step 4. STEP 4: Configure the Router Follow these steps to configure your Linksys Router. 1. On the computer that is connected to the Linksys Router, open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. 2. Type http://192.168.1.1 into your browser?s Address or Location bar and click Go or press the [Enter] key on your keyboard. The IP address 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of Linksys Routers. 3. A user name and password prompt will appear. Leave the user name field blank (empty), and type in admin (lowercase) for the password. The password admin is the default password of Linksys Routers. NOTE: The following username/password prompt screen will vary by operating system. 4. Once logged in, the router?s web-based Setup utility should load. In the section labeled Internet Connection Type, or WAN Connection Type depending on router model and firmware version, select the PPPoE option on the drop down list. Click here to view what an older Linksys router interface looks like. 5. Once PPPoE is selected, enter your PPPoE DSL username and password provided by your Internet Service Provider into the router?s User Name and Password fields. Depending on the provider, your username format might be similar to username, vzn123456, or an e-mail address (username@isp.net). If you are not sure what your username and password are, contact your Internet Service Provider for more information. NOTE: Be sure to
