Do not run without the lint screen, lint will accumulate and become a fire hazard. It sounds like something may have fallen into the screen chamber, unplug the machine and see if you can find it. You may have to diassemble the unit to find the issue.

I ran the dryer without the lint screen inserted. The load was baby clothes. There was a loud thump and the dryer stopped. One sock was found in the side yard under the vent. The drum won't start...

U have some piece of clothing jamming up the works. Unless you find it and remove it yourself you are looking at a nice expensive repair since the guy is not gonna come out to help you on the cheap.

U have learned a lesson the hard way but one that you will surely never forget! LINT SCREEN MUST BE IN PLACE.

Lint

Hi, have you tried cleaning the filter with mild soap under hot water ? An old toothbrush works well for scrubbing the screen, careful not to tare it. Can you test run the unit without a load remove the lint screen and the vent to see if the error continues ? That would identify if the error is related to air flow within the realm of "easy repairing". If it still comes up with an error without those things in place, the problem is within' the internal duct-work or controls. Let me know what you find. good luck, macmarkus :)

The dryer is heating but clothes aren't drying. There isn't much lint on the filter and the inside door and lint area is damp with wet lint spread around that area. It is a MDE5500AY model. Serial...

This just happened to us a couple of weeks ago, and we called a repair man. I might be able to save you $45 for a service call. In our dryer, the lint can fall out of the lint screen and clog up in the back of the dryer. Remove the back of the dryer (you might have to unscrew the lint screen too) and the ductwork inside the back (it's quite easy, I've now done it since my daughter dropped my sunglasses down the lint screen hole) just keep an eye on your screws. Remove the trapped lint, and vaccum out the hose, making sure there's no kinks in the hose as it runs to your house exhaust. Put the dryer back together and see if it works. If not, you've got a fan problem and will need a repairman. But apparently this is the most common dryer problem and will take about 20 minutes of your time to straighten out.

When i try to dry cloths only cool air comes on no hot air what do i do about this what is the problem, please help

There is a thermal fuse inside the unit that may need replacing. The fuse protects your dryer from becoming dangerously overheated if you have a lint blockage in the vent or if your motor siezes.
It's very common for lint to build up in the vent, thus clogging the exhaust.
I'd start by cleaning out the vent. Remove the lint screen and use a dryer brush (available at home improvement stores) to clear out the lint buildup.
Try using your dryer. If it still does not get warm, then look at replacing that thermal fuse. It should be an easy repair. The fuse is usually located in the back cover panel. Follow instructions that come with your new fuse.

My lint screen has no lint on it after drying a load. it also takes more than 1 cycle to dry. I have checked venting and it is clear. Heating element seems to be working, gets hot and goes off, comes back...

generically: Danger Will Rogers Danger...Better try to get inside the cabinet and check the venting....
..possibilities:
Vent pathway plugged (hence no lint) and lint backing up inside cutting flow and thermal sensor shutting down heating element.
..Vent hose in hole of cabinet but not connected to duct inside cabinet and lint is just filling cabinet. (common reason for premature heating element failure--3 times for my aunt fixed by tech--before I saw the vent hose connected only to the cabinet)
...both of the above is a hazard and can burn out the heating element.
..might possiblly be able to back blow through the vent hole and/or lint trap with a shopvac/vacuum cleaner (try **** and blow); but if works still need to verify that air pathways are clear and vent hose connected properly inside--should be fairly obvious inside.
...hope helps

My dryer doesn't heat up

I had the same problem. I called the repair man and my heating elements were broken, I had them replaced and now my dryer works fine. For me getting it repaired was cheaper then buying a new one. Your repair man should give you a free estimate on the cost

Lint Trap in dryer

Friend,
ngfam1 At your service!

You said, lint is collecting by vent located outdoors. And you feel, the lint trip isn't working.
and you feel very concerned that this is a fire hazard.
We do clean the lint trip off before every dryer run.

The fact that lint is clogging your outside vent does not mean the dryer is not working properly!
The dryers with the top mount lint screens have blow by lint to the outside.

My next dryer will be a Speed Queen dryer which has the lint screen inside the dryer by the door and works better , without the mess on top of the dryer every time I remove it to clean before each load!
That top filter is an old style design!

The outside screen is to keep small animals out!
I find the new plastic outer vents have a plastic mesh screen which caused the same issue as you spoke of and caused my dryer to stop getting hot even though it was only half blocked outside !
I REMOVED the screen and left it off!
And recommend this to all other folks too!
The dryer is too hot for animals to want to enter! They sense it! AND THEY WON'T go in it!!

There are a few types.

1.The old ones are a aluminum vent with a aluminum flap like door that has a spring to keep it closed when the dryer is not on and forcing it open to allow for the exhaust to escape.

2. The newer ones can have a plastic flap that works the same way ,but usually designed without the spring mechanism.

3. the newest one are the ones with the plastic mesh screen that I spoke of above!
Remove the pop off plastic screen and leave it off!
Or if you have the flap door kind.
Change the vent to the open one that comes with the plastic pop on mesh and do not put the screen on!!

It's been years that mine is off and it's all is fine.

You will be fine
Bless You ,
huuum
Please give me the best rating for this solved solution!
Thank You!
