How can you be sure it is the battery and not a component going out?

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

Then how come when the power coard is plugged in, there is no power light and no power to the computer, with or without the old battery in place?

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

Not satisfied with merely replacing the battery as the computer will not come on when the power cord is attached. The computer is supposed to run without a battery. I am working with a new power cord.

Also, the last guy said to test the computer at a shop. If I could do that...

Problem: With power cord plugged in, the computer will not charge up. Sometimes it does start charging, but then after awhile, it starts to discharge until computer is dead.

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

According to this forum @http://forum.notebookreview.com/what-not... , the laptop should run without the battery and it is not. This is also a brand new power cord and it did run the computer for a little while (battery in place) and then it abruptly stopped and the battery began it's discharge after 18% recharge. It is now dead and won't come on, though there is a chance it might. Anyway, without the battery it is still dead. The battery can be bad, but the power light should still come on and it does not.

Could a device be bad and causing this? Maybe the WiFi board went out?

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

Yes, the power cord connector is loose as the computer came on while I tried moving it. This is the problem. Now, how to fix?

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

Computer will only come on without battery in place. Did this, then inserted the battery to allow it to charge. It is charging now. Still could be motherboard since Client tripped on power cord. How to open case to check for loose connection?

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

Computer recharged to 1% and now the red light is flashing and discharging. Power light is blue and lit. Now what?

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

Ok, while the battery started discharging while plugged in, I pushed on the power cord connector to the right and it started charging again as it is doing now.

So, the power connector is bad. What can be done? I'm thinking of opening the case and seeing if a power connect component is loose and needs to be re-soldered.

What do you think? Also, is there an online manual for the Gateway M-6320 that tells how to dissect the computer?

  • St Dennis Charles Smart

Excellent work! Hope to hook up again for the next Client's system! :)

Hello,

Thank you for using fixya.

The battery of any netbook or laptop would actually die. It usually takes 2 years before it dies. But, for some apparent reasons, some batteries loss it's life before two years.

You are experiencing a battery failure as of this moment. The computer is detecting that the battery is already dying. I suggest you purchase a replacement battery.

But, if you want to make sure that your computer is completely fine. Try a known good battery in your computer and check whether it will experience the same thing that you are experiencing.

Have you tried removing the battery then plugging in the power cord but without turning the computer on? If you do this, you can observe that a power indicator will turn on which means that the computer is receiving the power from the power cord. What you will try with this is to check whether the power cord is loose or not. It might be that the power cord is loose.

If you cannot observe any lights lit, try to wiggle or push in the power cord, if it does light the power indicator, then, for sure it's loose.

If the power indicator is on but there is no power (be sure that the battery is removed/use the power cord only), then, I want to know if there are any errors that you can see in the display.

If it's a different component in the computer that's causing the problem, then, the computer should not turn on anymore or it will show up error messages.

Power problems could be caused by three parts. 1. Power cord, 2. Battery, 3. Motherboard.

    Check on that three.

Check whether the hole in the computer where you plug in the power cord has a crack or a problem on it.

If you have any known good power cords which is the same with the power cord that you have there, try it in your computer.

The problem that you are experiencing is the connection between the power cord and the computer. What you need to do is to try another power cord which is the same with the power cord that you are using.

Or check the hole where you plug in the power cord in your computer if there are any sign of damages.

There is no need for you to open up the computer for you to identify what's loose in the computer. I am pretty sure that there is something wrong in the powercord or the hole where you plug in the power cord.

Try using a different power cord first before opening up the computer. You might worsen the problem if you open it up.

If a known good power cord works fine then, there is a need for you to purchase a new power cord. But if it doesn't, then, you should bring the computer to a computer shop because a motherboard problem is a very complicated issue.

Here's what I need you to do now. Remove the battery and power on the computer with the power cord only. Let it turn on maybe at least 5 minutes. Check whether the computer turns off or not. If it doesn't show any problem, then, buy a new battery.

The blue light there is an indicator that the battery is not holding any charge at all.

  • When you power up the computer press F8 key 5 to 6 times then enter in safe mode.
If this problem occurs in safe mode then too then there is issue with your battery but if your laptop runs in safe mode then there is not problem of battery but problem with laptop hardware.

  • So now you can only check it with new battery it is better to check it at service shop with new battery so if it will not work with new battery then you not need to buy new .At shop you can check it .

My 1999 Chrysler LHS battery drained why is this happening

Tons of possibilities here. Corrosion on terminals builds up over time, causing higher resistance for the electricity going back into the battery from the alternator, causing it to charge more slowly. Moisture (or moisture in dirt) on top of the battery can cause a slow discharge between the poles (worse in humid areas). Short circuits (from bare wires, corroded connectors, etc.). Devices such as phone chargers plugged into power outlets that stay on when the key is off (some do, some do not). Interior lights left on. Remember, also, that alternator recharging will typically not take a maintenance free battery to 100% charge once it has been severely discharged. That means that, even though the car may seem to start fine, it may reach the point of turning the engine slowly (or not at all) much more quickly. It will only reach 100% again if trickle charged (with a battery charger). Probably 4 out of 5 of my battery issues have been solved with a good terminal cleaning and an overnight trickle charge, and my batteries rarely last less than 5 years. My truck battery is still going strong at 9 years. Regardless, though, batteries eventually stop charging, even expensive ones. Hope it turns out to be something simple.

Why is my laptop unable to run off battery power, even though battery shows fully charged and AC is unplugged

It's time for you to replace your battery.

how old is your laptop? and how do u use it - do u leave it plugged into the wall socket all the time? It's common for batteries to die out after a couple of years. however, if the computer overheats or if you leave it plugged in all the time, it's life cycle will decrease. Charge - discharge cycles. That's how you are suposed to do it.

My walkman wont turn on

Not sure if it's the same problem as mine! My battery was ran completly flat and then wouldn't turn on even after being plugged into the computer and hours of it juset sayin 'connecting'. I looked on Sony's website and found this -

Cause:
Battery is 100% discharged. Therefore, PC's USB with 5V/500mA set up has not enough power to start up the charging process because loading current is greater than the set up, therefore USB is disabled immediately due to sudden current load.
Remedy:
  1. Battery must not be discharged 100%
  2. If it happens then the supplied AC adaptor must be used firstly because it is providing 5V/800mA power. After a couple of minutes the unit can be connected to PC without problem then it can continue the charging during file transfer, etc.
I bought a usb adapter charger plugged it in and its back to normal!

I periodically can't get my computer to start running.

this occurs mostly due to static charges. perform the following:
1. Turn off the PC and disconnect the power supply.
2. Remove the battery from the notebook.
3. Press and hold the power button for 45 seconds.
This will discharge the static charges from the pc. Now check for the issue.

Norelco shaver sudden power loss

I hope you are observing the following:- Recharging only when the batteries are almost completely empty. Continuously recharging or continuously using as a corded razor will reduce life of batteries Charge only when the indicator in charge meter starts blinking. It appears that your batteries are gone. Hope you have replaced the batteries with the new ones. Use a good brand

BATTERY is charged, but will not work without being plugged in

Your battery is old and worn out, even though it indicates as fully charged. The battery capacity is practically zero. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.

You need to buy a new battery if you wish to use the laptop without connecting to the mains.

Lenovo N100 does not switch to battery power

Batteries have a memory,

When the battery was new it most likely would run for 1.5 hours, but, since you didn't want the computer to go off, and you were by a plug-in, you plugged it in before it was completely or maybe sometimes not even halfway discharged. That is where it stated its "memory" - this got shorter and shorter = your battery "THINKS" it is totally discharged and reads as so.

There are programs on the web (can't advertize for pay programs or give you links to them - against the rules) - that will re-vitalize your battery to almost new condition by discharging it more and more till it is truly fully discharged, then will fill it back to like new charge time.

Or you can buy a new battery.
