Question about Blue Microphones Snowball Professional Microphone

1 Answer

Yesterday, when I plugged the snowball into my macbook, both system preferences and Garage band preferences acknowledged its existence, but I couldn't hear the input through the headphones. Some kid at the apple store showed me how to do it, but I couldn't replicate what he did. Today, neither my laptop nor my desktop will acknowledge the snowball when it's plugged in . I really don't want to send it back to where I purchased it (Musician's Friend)...it's been enough of an aggravation as it is.

Hi.

Go to Mac audio settings, select and set the input device and the mixer to the same device (your mic),

Set the Mixer/Mux/Lin, line must be set to the be microphone. Ensure that line volume is up.
Check if direct sound is selected in Mac settings, in some case you need to uncheck it.

Let me know in case that does not fix the problem, I will have a look to see if there is any issue that can be related to the Snownball.

I need a reasonably priced audio interface to use with a remote synth and a MacBook (Garage Band). Any ideas?

I would go for getting someone else to record at studio, means they have all the professional ideas to bring to the table, solve problems, but if your just playing around in home a small focusrite 2/2 should do you, with 2 inputs for left and right mono from desk, or also dual linking in two separate channels via xlr.

I've got a new Blue Snowball mike that worked great out of the box, but now, a week later, it just gets a "device not recognized" message when I plug it in. I've tried rebooting, and...

I had the same problem with my PC and went to http://www.asio4all.com/ where I downloaded and installed the driver and it worked!! I found the site by reading this FAQ (see below) at Blue under Snowball.
(But I still have the same problem with my MAC).

"If you should experience any problems getting the program to recognize the mic, Adobe recommends the following: If the device does not allow you to record, then your microphone is not being detected as a valid input device in Premiere Elements. You can use an open source program called ASIO4ALL, which is a device driver that essentially wraps existing WDM devices, like USB microphones, as ASIO-compatible sound devices. Use the following steps to utilize this tool:
  1. Quit Premiere Elements.
  2. Visit the following web page and download the latest available version of ASIO4ALL: http://www.asio4all.com/
  3. Install the software, and restart the system if asked to do so by the installer.
  4. Make certain that your microphone is plugged in.
  5. Launch Premiere Elements. Go to the 'Edit->Preferences..>Audio Hardware' menu option. For the Default Device, choose the ASIO4ALL option. Click the ASIO Settings button, then select your microphone from the list of devices, click Exit, and then click OK on the Preferences dialog. Close and then restart Premiere Elements."

Im using a macbook, im not able to hear any thing in a voice conference in yahoo messenger.. pls help

check your preferences in the apps. Do you have headset plugged in??
there are sound options in yahoo messenger preferences, check those first, as well as your system preferences sound settings.
sometimes, its just plugged into the wrong input, and/or not set to hear/talk with a headset.

My sound in ichat is not working how can i fix it?

Might sound crazy but open Garage Band and play a note on the default Grand Piano [below] (any instrument will do, it just opens first under Software Instruments) Playing the sound in GB will reset things sound wise. Usu. Weird, I know.

Also open Sound in Preferences and see what output is set to. Make sure its set to. Change back to Internal Speakers if it got whigged out somehow.sound-in-ichat-not-working-fix-5tuw2hi2fbstc2m4gwcv2pnu-1-0.png sound-in-ichat-not-working-fix-5tuw2hi2fbstc2m4gwcv2pnu-1-2.png

Sounds like either your sound card has died, or Mac OS X cannot find it. I suggest taking it to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Retail Store, or try reinstalling Mac OS X with the DVD's that came with your MacBook Air.
Hope all goes well!
