Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I found a Quantaray 55-52 mm step down ring (Manufacture # 241664614) on Wolf Camera's website that I am interested in purchasing, but want to make sure it would work for me. I have some close up lenses (Hoya) for my old Canon SLR film camera (55mm) and was hoping I could use those lenses on my newer Nikon DSLR (52mm) camera. Would the step down ring make it possible to attach and use my old camera's close up lenses on my new DSLR camera? Thanks, Jerry

No. The 55-52mm step-down ring will let you attach a 52mm attachment onto a lens with a 55mm thread. You want a 52-55mm step-up ring.

It's not a universal mount, you do need to get a Canon mount.
I just did a quick search for "quantaray 70-300mm canon" and found several for sale.

Why does the camera say error 99 when i put lense on? camera works fine with other lense. we have a cannon 30d.

The Quantaray lens is not compatible electronic wise with your Canon. It is indeed made to fit Canon, but the lens is a bit outdated compared to the relatively new Canon.

Quantaray lenses were sold by Ritz Camera (also Wolf Camera). You would want to take it in to the and see if it can be sent out and re-chiped, which will allow it to work with the newer Canon cameras.

Not all lenses can be re-chiped. You may just have to purchase a new lens.

Quantaray QDC-900WA

Quantaray appears to not be a company at all It is affiliated with Ritz Camera and neither Quantaray nor Ritz actually manufacture anything.

The Quantaray SLR lenses are made in the Sigma factory. But many feel that they are not equal to the Sigma branded lenses.

I haven't found the maker of the flash units, yet. I should learn more this evening. An interesting mystery.

In here, you can find the User Guide for Quantaray 900 for Nikon TTL Flash

Good luck.

Is the quantaray 55mm lens hood compatible with a d40

yes and no. no because the lens diameter of the 18-55 is 52mm and yes if you use a stepping ring that you screw on the 18-55 to accommodate the 55mm hood.

Attachment for filter and hood

If you go to the camera store that sells quantaray then they will be able to order you one if they do not have it in stock.
or you can find one on a online auction site.
you need a step down ring. I believe the size of your lens is 58 mm but you could go to any camera store and ask them to verify that. but it should also be stamped on the front of the lens written in white.

if you find 58 mm anywhere on it then I am right. And that means you need a 72 to 58 mm stepping ring.

hope that helps,
Caleb

Quantary 100-300mm telephoto lense

I have been researching this problem and found there's nothing you can do. Appararently, the quantaray, being an older lens, wasn't made to work with this latest era of cameras. Though it might work perfectly with your older camera, its technology is outdated as it relates to digital cameras and can't mesh with the latest and greatest. By the way, most of my questions were answered on the Digital Camera Resource page (www.dcresource.com)
