Repeatedly press "F2" one second after pressing the power button, if this does not work, retry but this time press the "Del" key. This should bring up the BIOS configuration Menu.

Problem: You do not have access to change the settings in BIOS? . Have bought a...

There are two passwords in BIOS. One is start up password, the other isBIOS setting password. If you have forgotten the start up password thatmeans you cannot open computer at all. Then the first method is theonly thing you can do. Other methods can use to clear setting password.
==①:Motherboard Battery Discharge==
The common way toreset start up password is discharge Motherboard Battery. Most of thecurrent motherboard BIOS is using the button batteries to provideelectric power.That means if there is no electricity, the informationit contains will be lost. When it’s on power again, BIOS will set backto its original state, of course, there will be no BIOS passwords. Butyou will lose your setting at the same time.
What we need to dois to power off computer, open the computer box, and then unplug thepower plug of the computer to make sure that it is no electricity atall. Then locate the white silver button battery on the motherboard.Remove the battery carefully. Perhaps 30 seconds later, put back thebattery.
After put back the computer box then power on, thesystem will prompt “CMOS Checksum Error-Defaults Loaded”. That meansCMOS errors detected during inspections, had been included in thesystem default, BIOS password cracking success!
On somemotherboards, the battery is soldered to the motherboard, making itdifficult to remove. If this is the case, you have another alternative.Somewhere on the motherboard you should find a jumper that will clearthe BIOS password. If you have the motherboard documentation, you willknow where that jumper is. If not, the jumper may be labeled on themotherboard. If you are not fortunate enough for either of these to bethe case, you may be able to guess which jumper is the correct jumper.This jumper is usually standing alone near the battery. If you cannotlocate this jumper, you might short both of the points where thebattery connects to the motherboard.
==② : Backdoor BIOS Password==
Eachmotherboard manufacturer has set a backdoor password in order tofacilitate the provision of technical support. The backdoor password isa BIOS password that works, no matter what the user sets the BIOSpassword to. These passwords are typically used for testing andmaintenance. Manufacturers typically change the backdoor BIOS passwordsfrom time to time.
AMI Backdoor BIOS Passwords
Reported AMIbackdoor BIOS passwords include A.M.I., AAAMMMIII, AMI?SW , AMI_SW,BIOS, CONDO, HEWITT RAND, LKWPETER, MI, and PASSWORD.

Remember that what you see listed may not be the actual backdoor BIOS password,this BIOS password may simply have the same checksum as the realbackdoor BIOS password. For Award BIOS, this checksum is stored atF000:EC60.
==③: Software Crack==
There are a lotsoftwares to test systems or start up password, but they need to run onWindows. So it is only used to reset BIOS setting password.
!BIOS will recover the BIOS password for most common BIOS versions, including IBM, American Megatrends Inc, Award and Phoenix.
CmosPwd will recover the BIOS password for the following BIOS versions:
•ACER/IBM BIOS
•AMI BIOS
•AMI WinBIOS 2.5
•Award 4.5x/4.6x/6.0
•Compaq (1992)

•Phoenix 4 release 6 (User)
•Gateway Solo - Phoenix 4.0 release 6

Ifall else fails, you might be going to lose some money for technician.But they will use these same methods, try hard by yourself.

Resetting BIOS password

If you have loast the password, to reset the BIOS password you need to remove temporarily the CMOS battery , so to reset BIOS settings.

Some model may be using NV Ram, in that case removing the battery is not enough.

The battery is located on the lower side on the motherboard.

On many DELL models the battery can be accessed from the side of DVD slot, battery slot, or RAM slot, without disassemblying the laptop.

On some model you may need complete disassembly (eg. Dell Le series).

The battery usually looks like a couple of coin batteries wrapped in plastic and connected to motherboard by a two wires connector.

Before disassemblying or removing covers, always unplug adapter and remove battery.

Several Dell Laptop can be set to use NV Ram to store the password.
In this case the problem cannot be solved removing primary battery, then accessing and removing CMOS battery for few minutes.

If you still cannot reset you have two way out.

Disassemble completely and access the NVRAM microswitch, or contact Dell and get master password.

You can also try one of this standard Dell factory CMOS password:

I'm trying to enter set up. It is asking for password. I don't have one have do I get in?

You will need to clear the cmos memory. Unplug the laptop from the mains power supply. Remove the laptop battery. Press and hold the ON button for a minute or two to try to discharge any stray capacitance. Now comes the hard part. Locate the CMOS backup battery. This might be easily accessed from underneath, or under the keyboard. If you are unlucky then it will be hidden somewhere not easily accessible. If you provide the actual model number I might be able to find out where the battery is. If you manage to find the CMOS battery, you need to disconect it from the motherboard (or remove it if it is in a socket). Leave the battery disconnected for a few minutes. Replace the cmos battery and put the laptop back together. with any luck the cmos will be reset to default and you will be able to get into the bios.

Where is the cmos battery located on a toshiba satelite A105-s2131

There are several access panels on bottom of your laptop. These should have markings that designate what is behind each. CMOS battery can be either behind the hard drive panel or the memory card panel.

Alternatley, you can try this link to Tom's Hardware where someone is discussing how to do on a similar model. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247842-30-replace-cmos-battery-toshiba-satellite

Need to access the cmos battery in my northgate green731 laptop

The CMOS batteries in a lot of laptops are sort of hidden in the palm rest. You may be able to see it if you remove the main battery and look up into the case. The last one I changed, I could see it. If not, you will have to separate the two halves of the case and then you'll find it.

SONY VAIO CMOS BATTERY LOCATION

Correction...

The CMOS battery is located under the system board, and is not accessible from under the keyboard.

The keyboard has to be removed in order to change the CMOS batter, (another reason why I don't like Sony laptops.)

Below is the batter I just pulled from a user's VGN-FS660\W 892cbd5.jpg
