Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on what you're describing " push timer to start and nothing " the hi-limit thermostat is likely tripped/open.

The hi-limit is located under the top of the cabinet in the left rear corner attached to the heating element housing.

The replacement comes in a kit as shown here...part # LA-1053

You may find this link helpful for purchasing & testing the existing thermostats, but the new does come with instructions.

Let me know if you need further assistance or directions and I will help in any manner I can. Good luck.

Thank you for choosing FixYa today.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hello again,

    Thank you for the reply.

To be clear, did you check both the thermostats located there ( by the element ) ? Only the small one on the side is a fuse type hi-limit (non-reset), but I want to be sure you know that.

Again, Let me know and I will help in any manner I can from here. It could also be the door switch, but I want to make sure the hi-limit/fuse can be ruled out or we'll go in circles.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

The fuse is mounted on the heater element. When it blows nothing in the heater or motor circuit works but the power to the timer is not interrupted therefore you can hear. Service manual

Whirlpool dryer will not start, used to start if I turned timer

whirlpool electric dryer will not start when you push start button. Model No. LER5634AW0. There is power to the dryer. The door switch appears to be working,(didn't check it with a meter). I push the start button, run it through all the cycles and still nothing. Are there any resets or circuit breakers that I could check? Where do I go from here?

The dryer timer knob won't set, therefore when you push to start, nothing happens

Try to twist the outside ring around the timer knob. The knob could be faulty and freewheeling, so turning the outside ring (I'm assuming you have a mechanical timer, not an electronic one) does the same thing as turning the knob while it is "out". When you've set the timer, then push the knob in to start. Hope this helps - I made some assumptions about your machine that I hope are correct... Good luck.

Dryer timer or start will not work

Yes, it does sound like the timer. You could do an ohms test if you have the ability but timers aren't too terribly expensive or hard to replace anyway.

Dryer won't start

Check your door switch and wires to see if they are damaged first. You may have a bad Start Switch. If it is a 2 wire switch you can tape them together and then plug in dryer ,if it starts, replace the Start switch. Please Rate this!
