Question about Printers & Copiers

HELLO...I HAVE A MICROTEK ARTIXSCAN 1800F SCANNER THAT I PAID OVER $1200. FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. USED ONLY 16 TIMES OR SO. THE BULB BLEW OUT FOR SOME REASON AND CANNOT BE CHANGED BY HAND, THE COMPANY TELLS ME. I CALLED THEM. THEY WERE RUDE AND TOTALLY NOT HELPFUL. THEY SAID THEY DO NOT REPAIR THEM AND TO BUY A NEW ONE. THEY HAVE NO SUPPORT FOR THEIR PURCHASES, AND CANNOT HELP ME. THEY WERE TOTALLY UNAPOLOGETIC ABOUT IT. I CANNOT FIND ANYONE WHO CAN REPAIR IT. DO YOU KNOW OF ANY SERVICE THAT WLL TACKLE THIS KIND OF REPAIR? CAN YOU ADVISE ME WHAT TO DO? THANK YOU. -BERN

In answer to your question, yes I did ask them if they had the lamp in stock; they told me that they did not, and that it is not possible for me to change the lamp. It takes special equipment and requires a technician to uninstall the old one and put in a new one. They did not know where to get the lamp, but they were clear that I could not do the repair job myself.

I DID ASK THEM IF THEY HAD THE LAMP IN STOCK AND THEY SAID "NO", AND THAT IT IS NOT REMOVEABLE WITHOUT SPECIAL TOOLS AND REQUIRES A TECHNICIAN TO DO THE JOB. THEY DID NOT KNOW WHERE TO GET THE LAMP NOR HOW TO REMOVE IT. IS THERE A SERVICE WHICH SPECIALIZES IN TACKLING TOUGH PROBLEMS LIKE THIS? OTHER OPTIONS? THE IST RESPONSE WAS NOT ADEQUATE FOR MY PARTICULAR NEEDS. I'M LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, IF YOU CAN HELP AT ALL. IT SEEMS THAT THIS ISSUE IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH, THOUGH. THANKS FOR WHATEVER HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME.

Yes, the solution was helpful and opened up another avenue for me to deal with the problem. Thank you so much.

Replacing the lamp is a very sensitive task in fixing the scanner. The manufacturer is right that it requires skilled scanner technician to do it. However, its worth giving a try replacing the lamp by yourself. The problem is where else can you find the exact lamp size or part number like yours. If ever you found a spare lamp, go to the site below for instructions on how to carefully replace the lamp

hope that helps

Well you find a bad guy who gave you some pure rubbish at customer service. Next time get his name and report.
Microtek provides replacements on request, at least in UK, we got a lamp from them 2 moths ago.
If you cannot get replacement from Microtek try here
Replacement Lamps from the scanner parts and ...Regarding the assemblage, the bulb is very delicate and will blow if touched, have the job done by a good repairman at a local computer repair shop.

Well the company is right, basically its not repaied, however it can be. firstly you will need to get a replacement lamp, you can get this from an onld scanner that uses the same voltage as your, or more preferible on just like your..

Ok now if you touch it with your hand thats the end of the bulp, use surgical gloves and hold the edges near the contacts.

  1. Open up the scanner
  2. carefully remove the carige unit(part that moves back and forth)
  3. surn it over to see the bulb
  4. remove and replace the bulb.
Once it is the bulb it should be operational, now generally these things are tossed out and a new one replaced. However if you think you want to have a go at it, by all means do, you cant spoil it twice.

I'm sure the lamp replacement is not a difficult task but finding the lamp itself could be a problem since even the manufacturers are not very helpful.
Did you ask them if they carry the lamp?

Reinstall scanner software. Scan again for SCSI devices, if controller does not recognise it, then the logic board on the scanner is faulty.

How can i fix This Issue?

Try this: 1) With the printer turned on, unplug it from the main power supply, then press the power button for 30 seconds or so.
Power back on and see.
If doesn't work,
2) Clean the glass and white background material
If that doesn't work,
3) check the scanner bulb assembly: is it able to move freely? Also, the scanner bulb may need replacing.

Experience: I had an HP printer giving the same problem. I was encouraged to buy another printer by support team (scanner bulbs may not be sold just like that). I got another printer not working at all (different make) and used the bulb from that one and I stopped getting the error and printer worked perfectly.

If you can get a similar scanner assembly - preferably for the same make, then do so.

Printer making rattling noise and then gets stuck at scanner bulb warming up

Hello,

The "scanner bulb warming up" error is caused by dirty scanner optics. We have a step by step guide to the cleaning procedure posted on our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com Click on the printer repair link and then the HP page. You will find the guide there, it should not take over about 20 minutes to do. If you have any questions just contact me at the email below.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

I don't know who you called to get your drivers but here's the HP Support page for your printer listing all the operating systems they support.

Maybe they sent you the wrong driver.

I have a Microtek 9600xl scanner. I am in need of a bulb. Do you know where I can get one. Thanks

This model is very similar to the Microtek 9800XL. You might try contacting Microtek to see if the bulbs are interchangeable.
