Phone ringing after power failure

RE: AT&T 4-line Intercom/Speakerphone 954.

Our electricity went out in a storm today. When it came back on, the phone began ringing intermittently - 2 rings, pause, 2 rings, etc. It will not stop ringing. We've unplugged and replugged the jacks and the power adapter, but nothing stops the ringing.

We turned down the volume for now, but when our office opens Monday morning, we have a problem on our hands.

Please help.

I just fixed this problem after 2 weeks of a muted phone. you have to assign an extension to the phone...and it will be fixed

I believe you have to reset the intercom system, meaning you need to reassign one or all of the phone's intercom numbers. To assign intercom # ( found on page 10 of the manual which you can download online)

1 Do NOT lift handset
2 Press the following 3 buttons (in order) PROGRAM, STAR, and then POUND
3 Enter two digits (the number you want the phone to be)
4 Press the INTERCOM button and you will hear a tone - then youre all done.

I had the same problem and found this site, I tried the solution and it did not work! Another site said the problem was that it now had the same intercom number as another of my phones, I knew that I had used the intercom number for that phone but figured I had nothing to lose so I tried programing a new intercom number which was not in use, AND IT WORKED!

Line 1 disconnects people on hold

Try these first and let me know
Intercom does not function correctly
• Make sure line 1 is connected properly and common to all phones on the system.
• Make sure all phone ID’s (station numbers) involved have been assigned.
Transfer does not function correctly
• Make sure receiver phones (stations) have same line connected.
Intercom indicator turns red and green alternately
• The station address needs to be re-assigned due to a duplicate station address in the system. See “Changing the Phone ID (Station Address)”.
Good luck,
Lee

The damage is not to the phone line it is to the phones. Unfortunately this is very common with powered phones as they are almost never kept on surge protectors and are very fragile. You will need to purchase a new base station to use with existing phones.

I have 3 of the 954 model. If im using the phone

Do you have DSL on the first line? I would say that you have split the line to the phones so that they are not able to recognize the off hook from your office phone because each phone has a DSL filter. So take your phone line from the back of the DSL modem (line 1) and split it to all of the phones. Put the filter in the line, if you need one before the splitter.

Thats because its looking for the intercom number to be assigned. as soon as you assign one in programming it will stop.

Good Morning! I work for a small business that has 5 of the GE 2-9451 4 line phones with intercom. We were actually running two businesses out of the same office originally. Line 1 would ring in to...

Hi,

Since you said line 3 was working for #2 company, i will suggest you put the line 3 back from where you removed it from. From the look of things the line might be the only line connected to be functioning. When ever you want to switch line since it is with intercom you will need to switch both side from where it is connected to where it is connected to, so that network connection can be achieved.

And on the other hand, the other line might not be working properly, that is why it was not connected or used.

Take care.

Remove power cord with no backup battery

Each telephone must be connected to line 1 and line 2 for
proper operation. The remaining lines 3 and 4 may — or may not —
be connected to each station as you desire. First plug in the battery, then the phone lines (1 & 2 are mandatory), and third the power cord. If your intercome LED is blinking red and green, then press: STORE IN, followed by "INTERCOM" followed by a free intercom# (i.e., any of the memory buttons 1 through 16 not already assigned to another telephone set.) Then wait for the phone to go through its initiation sequence during which it searches each of the four possible lines. After that concludes, you should get dial tone on your active lines. :-) Marco
