Just push the collar back towards the drill motor as you push the bit in. some you have to turn and push in. If you push the bit too hard the collet might not release. If it's rusty it'll be diffacult to push back.

The bit wont lock in the drill, how do i fix this problem

This is a very easy fix - you have a quick change chuck on this tool. Turn the chuck counter-clockwise and pull it straight off - the new one goes on the same way. Quick Change Bit Chuck

Trying to change drill bit on Craftsman Rotary Variable speed drill

Lock the spindle (small chrome button near the tool's nose or lever at the power switch). You'll probably need to rotate the spindle by hand as much as one full turn as you do this, to get the lock to drop into place.

With the spindle locked, use your supplied wrench to turn the collet nut counter-clockwise (as seen from the cutter end) about one full turn. The collet should now be plenty loose enough to release the cutter / wheel / drill.

I dont know how to change the drillbit in my dw257 corded drill

Do you mean the Dewalt DW257 drywall screwdriver? For that model, you need to pull the adjustment collar forward. (This part fits over the drill bit to the clutch housing.) Remove the collar completely. Then using pliers, if needed, pull the drill bit tip out of the holder. Then put a new tip into the holder. Then snap the adjustment collar back over the retaining ring. See Figure 3 on page 2 of the manual (see below for a link) to see what the adjustment collar looks like.

If you want to replace the bit holder and the drill bit tip, pull the holder straight out from the drill. (Again use pliers if it is tight.) Then push a new bit holder into the spindle until the ball lock snaps into the groove of the bit holder shank. Put in the bit tip. Then put the adjustment collar on and make sure it snaps into the retaining ring.

These are the directions for the Type 3 DW257. The manual is available here: http://servicenet.dewalt.com/Products/Detail?isId=true&productNumber=DW257&selectedType=6793# . From the Product Information tab, select your model type and the instruction manual will be shown in the right hand column, if it is available. The manual is available as a PDF; you will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to read the manual.

I hope this helps.

How to get my ignition lock out

Instructions

Test fit a drill bit in the lock cylinder. You want a bit that is just smaller than the cylinder. You will be using hardened drill bits to cut through the cylinder, since ordinary bits may be damaged by drilling metal.

Lock the drill bit into the drill chuck and tighten the chuck.

production in very fast delivery! special threading taps, plug gauge

Drill a starter groove into the lock cylinder. Start the drill on a low speed and create a groove in the end of the lock cylinder. You don't need to create a deep hole, just enough of a groove so that the drill bit will not slip on a higher speed.

Increase the drill speed to the highest setting and drill out the lock cylinder. Let the drill do the work. If you force the drill into the lock cylinder, you could burn out the rotor inside the drill motor

A dewalt dcd970 18v xrp and when i try to unscrew anything the bit comes loose. Can't figure out why?

check the inside of the chuck at the bottom(open the chuck to max). There should be small screw there with either a hex or a Phillips head. It is a left hand screw that locks the chuck in place and will not let it unscrew when you are removing parts.. If it is not there then you will have to get one from an old drill that is junk unless you can get one from an electrical appliance shop the repairs drills.

How do I change the drill bit?

you would hold chuck in a firm grasp as your hand around a pipe and hold tight, run drill in reverse and that should loosen the chuck and the bit. If its to tight for your hand get a pair of channel locks and hold chuck.

How do I use a Vermont American #17192 Drill Press Stand? Anyone have an instruction sheet for this? I acquired one from a sale but am unable to figure out how to mount our drill onto it. Thanks.

I have one of these. 2c7c66c8-687d-4eff-b1b9-7685d2c6ebab.gif
Here you will see how the drill is mounted in the device. Position (b) around the handle and tighten it up untill drill seats firmly in place. Take a speed square, or normal square and eyeball or measure the drill to see if its straight. Use the alignment adjustment (A) to fine tune the drill to get the drill bit straight and square. Tighten up all the nuts holding drill in device and recheck the drill bit for straightness.. Put your work under the drill, press the trigger and lock into place to get the drill to constantly run without finger on trigger, pull down the press lever to drill your hole... Hope this helps!

Changing bits

Without a model number I am guessing but you should have to either pull back on the outer collar or push forward to release the bit in the hex driver. If this doesn't work give me the brand and model number and I will find a user manual to look at and let you know where you can get it.
