Question about Electro Brand Vertical 3-CD Stereo Shelf System

Has power but controls won't work

A friend bought the above model (it was described as a memorex) but made in china. memorex model # vcd8bm/mo. they don't know anything, or even heard of it.
he droped it while trying to wall mount it. now, i still get power to the blue lites-except for the power/standby button. no lite and no function can't turn off or on. also, none of the other buttons work at all. no sound from radio or cd's. can't ajust clock, etc. and the right "saloon door" won't close properly. also won't work with remote-tho. maybe a separate problem.
please help.

    ser. # s/n 4800 mp3 007783

    power/standby lite doesn't work-the unit is in where i can''t even turn power to standby.

    all 3 cd lites on, no cd's work

    can't change radio stations etc. etc. etc. no buttons work

    if careful, can open cd doors, mech. does work. will get radio, but sometimes, when i carefully close doors, will get reading and cd will spin a little, then stops, will then tell me something the number of tracks and nothing else.

    guess that's about it.

    thanks

Hi,

In similar workloads/repair jobs, often the problem is either or a combination of:

  • loose connectors/wirings;
  • mechanical misalignment;
  • cold/loose solder;
  • cracked board, open foil underneath PCB (very often).
Corrective measures would involve opening the unit for a look and see. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Should you be considering a DIY, then initial diagnosis/checks would have to be done on the power supply. There should be a constant standby B+ (most likely +5VDC). Additionally, the mains B+ would either be triggered on through a relay or a switching regulator. Often, as earlier stated, cracked foil/trace on the PCB would be the culprit. This is component level repair and should be reasonably easy saved that it is time consuming.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

There is something wrong inside of the unit,caused when falling it down,try to check for the crack of the circuit board and misalignment of the mechanism of the CD player.Your unit now is in protection mode to prevent further circuit damage,that's why it will not turn off / on.Look for short circuit(accidentally joining its other parts when it fall) and if happens you see a breakage or crack try join it a wire jumper,if cracks solder joint,reworks the solder joints.

Hopes this may help;

is this the unit in question?

Id almost just buy a new unit. by the sounds of it alot got shooken up in there and well your best bet would be to get someone to take alook at it that is familiar with the unit and able to take it apart and put it back together.

or open it up yourself and find out if you see what has happened inside. use a digital camera to take pics of where you got special screws ect from.

so you know what order to put them back in.

When the radio fell it may have popped the interior fuse or may have came out of the the holder... take the radio apart and look for the fuse. there may be more than one that would cause it to have power to only certain things and not the other

I have just received the psp-1001 from a friend, the battery is fully charged but it won't turn on, is it a lost cause?

Hi,
Better bring it first to some PSP tech to verify the problem of the board, some micro fuses might have blown.
It takes some soldering to replace it
Hope that helps you!

I just bought a used Memorex VHS player/recorder at a thrift store, Model MVR2031. I also have a remote MVD2015. Is there any way to make the remote control this player? If not, what remote do I need to...

If it doesn't work as is, then no. You'll have to purchase a Universal Remove, any basic model should work. Just make sure it has VCR Support.

Once you purchase a universal Remove Go Here is you need the codes to that VCR:

D10 is shorted. HER304 in middle of Power supply board near large electrolytic cap. Replace with Radio Shack 276-1144 3A 400PIV Diode. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH HIGH VOLTAGE PRESENT ON POWER SUPPLY BOARD. UNPLUG POWER CORD!!! OBSERVE PROPER POLARITY WHEN REPLACING DIODE-LOOK WHERE THE BAND IS.

PS- I just fixed the same model this morning.

I bought a Memorex MX3905 shelf system at big lots for 30.00 last August 2008. I had lcd display problems and exchanged for another one. As I exchanged it, this one had no lcd problems, but has amperfirer...

I work for Memorex tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your system needs to be repaired. However, I don't believe the internal parts for that model are available which means repair would not be an option. Memorex has moved toward replacing their electronics for customers with warranty claims rather than stocking parts for repair.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Memorex CD + Graphics Model MKS2112 Lens moves, CD will not play, disk does not spin during "read". Err Msg: "No" as in "No Disk"

I work for Memorex tech support. Our number is 800-919-3647.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your karaoke machine needs to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. The problem is Memorex no longer stocks replacement parts for most of their electronics. If your unit is under warranty, it will be replaced by the company. If it is out of warranty, please call the above number to see if your model qualifies for any out of warranty exchange options.

Memorex dvd player standby light flashing

I work for Memorex tech support. Our phone number is 800-919-3647.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your DVD player needs to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. The problem is Memorex doesn't repair their DVD players, they simply replace them when a customer has a warranty claim. If your player is no longer in warranty (the warranty is 90 days from the date of purchase) please call the above number to see if your model qualifies for any out of warranty options. Getting the player repaired locally would cost far more than what you paid for it, and that's if someone could repair it without any replacement parts from Memorex.

Memorex Model MD6451R CD play - LCD readout "hold"

Looking down on the unit from above with "Memorex" reading left to right look at about one oclock. There is a switch marked hold ...turn it off. Its black on black, so its hard to see. It disables the onboard controls. The remote if you have it works either way, but when on hold it will act just as you describe.

I finally found a code that works. Code 3144 worked. I am using the RCA universal remote control RCR412S and RCA DVD player DRC200N. The code 3144 is listed under Memorex in the code book that came with the remote control.
