    your response failed to mention an amplifier to drive 4 spkrs, 2 local and 2 remote as stated in my original request. a boombox is out in left field and is totally non responsive.

You could go with a home surrond sound system with satellite speakers.The 2 rear speakers are wireless and can be moved around.

Not outputting to all speakers from CD, but does from DVD

Hi,.

With the indulgence of the others...
dfadfab.jpg
If I understand your problem right:
1. CD works only in Speaker A (but not in Speaker B);
2. DVD works on either or both A/B;
3. CD will work if plug into to VCR input but selector must be of another source (not VCR).

A couple of suggestions:
a. pls try doing again the reset as ginko has suggested but make it a bit longer, i.e. unplug it from the mains for a couple of hours;
b. since you have remove most of the wiring, why dont you try switch A & B. make the family room speakers the B while the speaker selector the A;
c. hook the CD (only) using the RCA cables (red/white) nothing else;
d. play any CD music and go through the paces of selecting source, speakers, surround/hall/theater/etc as troylove11 has suggested.

This would be now a simple setup, 1 source (CD) to 1 output/speaker (the family room) via the Denon. Try different settings. If the CD plays normally then, without changing any setting nor powering it off (but with volume level all the way down), remove the family room speaker wiring and replace it with the wires to/from the speaker selector.

the idea is to determine which is the real issue, the Sony, the Denon settings/hardware or the speaker selector.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Amplifier - TA-AX380; CD Player - CDP-C40; AM/FM Tuner - ST-JX380; FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver - STR-AV570X, and Stereo Cassette Deck - TC-W380.....all Sony. Very old system, do not have the manuals, they...

Since you have 2 receivers, you can either use the Sony STR-AV570X or the TA-AX380. You will need 3 Stereo RCA Cables to connect your CD Player, Tuner, and Tape Player. The speakers connect to the receiver you choose using the speaker input terminals.

I use a tascam dm24. i am getting drop out when my music is playing. i also get a static sound sometimes after drop out.

ok question when you play music is off cd or comp. or mp3 player
reason i ask is cause some cd formats and songs come with the distortion on them the manufacture does not see this cause mass production in cd's
turn onto a receiver fm tuner if static is still there power failure is common in the power house inside receiver these require maintenance and probably new power house conductor

dust in the system can create static also hair and dust are magnatized this can distort the sound quality professional cleaning of system is probably needed in this case

if you have a main speaker system working properly, takea known good amp to ch2. wire the main pre amp out to amp 2 input.. turn both units on(no spkrs connected), fire it up. if the amp does not go into protect mode, turn ALL power off to the system.,connect one Spkr channel on A2, AND TURN THE VOLUME DOWN FIRS!!!!. pOWER UP THE SYSTEM AND SEE WHAT YOU GET.BE GENTLE WITH VOLUME SETTINGD! If ch 1 works, repeat procedure with ch 2 pre amp out.

Onkyo TX-DS474 Receiver shuts down after Standby mode.

It's going into a protect mode. The amp is probably shorted out. Disconnect the spkrs and turn it on. If it still shuts off, it's the amp, if not, it's the spkrs.
