How long should I wait for current to discharge and do you recomend discharging the unit to ground in some way?

  • cboec Mar 23, 2011

    Thanks,

Is it necessary to take out the power board to view the capacitors you are talking about or can I see them after removing the cover plate?

  • cboec Mar 23, 2011

    thanks.

I've opened up the unit and removed the cover plate to the power supply board. Do I have to pull the board to see the campacitors you're referring to?

I'm sorry. Yes to what? It does not show my thread

I'm sorry. Yes to what? My thread (question) does not show

  • cboec Mar 25, 2011

No viible b ulging capaciitors. Took out power board and I'll try bringing it to radio shack to see if a salesman may see something I'm missing. When I first started working on this I didn't hear any clicking noises like the capacitor problem you mentioned

  • cboec Mar 25, 2011

No bulged capacitors. Pulled out power supply board and have done a close examination. There is an in line fuse (porcelain) that reads 0 ohms across

  • cboec Mar 26, 2011

Correct. No led indicator on or any other sign of power

  • cboec Mar 28, 2011

When I say 0 resistance I mean a dead short (0 Ohms short). So I don't believe this is the solution

By nothing, do you mean that the LED at the front is off as well?

Ok I just read your previous post. The resistance does not read 0 . It is always above that. If its showing 0 then it means infinite resistance(often accompanied by a beep if your multimeter has that feature). If yes then replacing the fuse would be the first thing to do

Thats what I said. Short is nothing but an open circuit which I have told you about.

Hello,

I don't think this is a remote issue. I think your TV has developed a power problem.

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

I have a symphonic 27 inch tv and need the code

Google the model number of remote and the set for "manual" which should have possible codes.

With the manual for the remote look to see if it has a search mode which will allow you to try every possible code one at a time to find one that works.

Universals even if programmed will be missing key features the original remote had.

I HAVE A 15 YEAR OLD ZENITH 27 INCH TELEVISION (MODEL- SE 2719P). THE ONLY WAY TO TURN IT ON IS WITH THE REMOTE. AFTER THE POWER WENT OUT FOR 20 SECONDS, I TRIED TO TURN THE TV BACK ON & NOTHING...

Yes it is definitely time for a new tv. If you live near a populated area just go on your local craigslist and you can get great used televisions for quite cheap. I have seen nice 36" tv's sell for 50$ and less.
Thank you and good luck,

PROGRAM COMCAST DVR REMOTE TO WORK WITH TV

Digital Lifestyles 42in 1080p FA2B-42570

For DISH Network users: I found that the Citizen brand remote code #523 worked for the sound, mute and power. This is for the remote that comes with the standard DVR, im not sure about any others.

** This was added to the 32in product page because there is no listing for the 42 inch yet.

the typical power cord is usually the same kind that is plugged into your monitor right in front of you. Buy another one of those. A universal remote should work (not promising anything)

Program bell expressvu remote for new tv

The easiest way is to do device code scan. Since you want to program the TV, hold the TV button on your bell expressvu remote. When all the top buttons light up, press the power button, the TV button light should remain lit. Keep pressing up/down until your TV turns off. When your TV turns off, press the # button. Thats all. Your done.

If you want to set up the AUX button, hold the AUX button until all the buttons light up. Then press * and either

0 - second TV
1 - second VCR/DVD player
2 - audio amplifier or cable box

Then press the power button and press up/down until the device turns off. The last step is to press # and your done.

I have one in my shop with the same problem. Power is the only function that works. I repaired the power supply six monts ago. Now it looks like a bad digital processor board which is non-repairable. I can't believe what's happened to the tv business. Absolutely disgusting!

Westinghouse LTV-27w6 27 in. HDTV LCD

Have you unplugged the set from AC power? Not just 'turn it off' but physically remove the power cord for 1 minute. Often this 'resets' internal circuitry when a 'power off' will not.
