I am assuming this is a washing machine. Not knowing the model, most machines have the pump underneath it and it is accessible if you can set the machine on its side. Make sure that the water is drained out of it first. You might want to take it out to an area where a spill of water from the machine won't matter. The pump is connected with two hoses and it can be belt driven or mounted directly to the motor. It is not too difficult to remove and replace. Having the part with you when you go to purchase a replacement is good. Be sure to take photos before you remove the pump. This will help the memory when you go to install the new one.

This is tricky... I'll suggest that you put the hoses back on EXACTLY where you took them off from. If this does not work, save all the parts, a competent technician will be able to reassemble your unit for about twice the cost of buying a new one.

Would it be easier to buy a new one or fix it? I've had it for over 7 years

Hard to say. No make/model provided. How much did you pay for it new? How much would it cost to repair? If there is little difference between the two prices, may be best to buy a new one.

Hello. so i have a 1/2 HP sta-rite pump. a while back it start making a whining nose. im curious is if it makes more sense to buy a new pump or buy a rebuild kit. thank you

Hi mwsang...

It would be cheaper to buy the bearings and replace them as this is causing your whining noise.
When you get the pump motor apart then you can take the bearings off the rotor and take them to the nearest bearing shop for replacments.
Replace your bearings and it will be good for a long time again.

My steam vac is leaking water. It still works, but how do I fix it from leaking out the bottom?

It cost me $65, had to buy a new clean water bucket. If you shine a light on the bottom you will see a shatter effect much like broken shatter proof glass in car windows, apparently it is cheap and doesn't last. Who knew?

My microwave appears to work in all aspects except the important one, it is not heating. It is 7 years old. Is this repairable or does it need replaced?

probably a blown fuse. i would not suggest fixing yourself as there are extremely dangerous voltages inside. to have service shop fix would cost 80 to 100,m prob best to toss and buy new.

Me too - Same problem

Sometimes the unit's are so inexpensive to buy new that the motor might wind up costing just as much, even with you doing the labor. Please put your ametek motor number in with your questions and I can search the price for you. The best bet is to type your exact make/model into google and type motor replacement at the end.

Generic problem for all Vacuums
Hi my vacuum (Russell Hobss 2200 Bagless HEPA)
Hi my vacuum (Russell Hobss 2200 Bagless HEPA) seems to have just enough (not loads) of suction till it reaches the cleaning head. The head does not appear to be blocked - but there is then almost no suction at all.
It also makes loads of noise when on- and an even louder noise when turning off.
is it fixable or is it dead?
Thanks

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Well there seems to be maybe a few problems, the head may be clear, but the hoses could be clogged and or the HEPA filter could be clogged as well – if the hoses and wands are clear and the filter clean you may look @ a motor replacement depending on the cost or to buy a new vacuum and in some instances you can trade in your old vacuum for a new one – but check it fist from the suction head thru the hoses, wands and filters, B4 you decide to purchase a new one or to replace the old motor with a new one depending on cost. A rule to live by – the item cost more to repair that to replace – replace the item, if the repair cost (as an example) say $50.00 to $60.00 and to buy a new one would cost $100.00 – buy a new one.
