1) Download manual:
http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/ej351c%20-%20english.ashx

2) The timer could be bad. EJ351 has 1 year limited warranty, which is industry standard.

3) Reset timer: move the control lever to the OFF-CLEAR position for about 20 seconds. The red indicator light will go off and any previous time settings will be cleared from memory. And then reprogram timer using instructions.

4) If clearing programs does not restore timer function, then buy new timer.

The red indicator light for the intermatic light timer EJ351 does not even go on - what can I do?

Hello Barb.
EJ351 timer indicator light problem:
Reset timer and try again.
This timer is rated for incandescent lighting only, 500 watt max, 40 watt minimum, and timer has two wires.
When replacing switch, either wire can connect to timer wires.
Check circuit breaker: click breaker all the way off, and then back on.
Use non-contact voltage tester to see if wires are live at timer.

If the timer does not work, then it has 1 year limited warranty for defects in workmanship.

My EJ35IC timer seems to be preprogrammed, and i cannot erase it. can you help? thank you

There is no repair for defective timer.
Unknown if this is new timer, or timer that worked before and stopped working.
Add a comment any time.

Try resetting timer using instructions from manual: Move control lever to OFF-CLEAR position for about 20 seconds. Red indicator light will go off, and all previous programming will be cleared.
Then move control lever to ON position and red indicator will start flashing. Reprogram timer.
If functionality is not restored, then timer might be defective.

Timer has non-replaceable capacitor battery for 15 minute carryover during power outage.
Timer can be affected by radio and TV receivers. Unplug those devices and check if function is restored.
Reset timer and program again.
If timer function is not restored after reset, then buy new timer.
Timer has 1-year limited warranty, and is rated for incandescent only, up to 150Watts.

I returned from vacation last night and noticed all four of my coach lights were off. I thought...the timer needs to be reprogrammed due to a power outage while I was away. The red indicator light was...

1) You performed correct troubleshoot steps down the line.
Last thing would be to install defect timer on another light circuit in house, and see if problem is the timer or wire going to coach lights.

2) EJ351C has 1 year limited warranty.
Buy new EJ351c and install single pole light switch until timer replacement is available.
Timer has easy 2-wire installation. Turn off power. Connect new timer just like old one was connected. Either timer black wire connects to either wire in switch box.

Superswitch programmable wall light switch - when timer is in off position lights glow dim when using energy saving bulbs.

http://www.intermatic.com/products/timers/consumer%20indoor%20timers/in-wall%20timers/ej351c.aspx

Manual say 'incandescent' light bulbs only.

What can I control with my EJ351C? The EJ351C timer is to be used with standard base incandescent light bulbs only! It should not be used to control lighting such as:
  • Compact Florescent
  • Energy Saver
  • Flood lights
  • Halogen
  • Mercury Vapor
  • Christmas lights
  • Candelabra bulbs

There is also a way of setting it by simply turning the light on and off at the desired time. Can yu help?

Manual: http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/ej351c%20-%20english.ashx

The manual says:
"To automatically program, letting the switch
timer "record" your ON/OFF activities over a 24-hour period,
storing them as programmed settings:

Move the control lever to the OFF-CLEAR position for about
20 seconds. The red indicator light will go off and any previous
time settings will be cleared from memory.
Move the control lever to the ON position. The Red indicator
light will start flashing.
Press the dial as an ON/OFF switch to turn lights ON and OFF
at the ON and OFF times you desire for the first 24 hours.
At the end of the 24-hour period, the switch timer will be programmed
and the Red indicator light will stay ON, indicating
that the switch timer is in AUTOMATIC mode."
