98 dodge dakota will not pass CA inspection at low speeds. What's the problem? I was told that it would pass if engine was hot, say ran for 20 minutes or so and then inspect!? Oxygen sensor or Catalitic Converter? Something else?98 dodge dakota will not pass CA inspection at low speeds. What's the problem? You need a repair shop to drive the vehicle with a professional
scan tool, for at least 25 miles
That way all the Emissions Monitors will run clear
If you fail to do that, your guaranteed to fail inspection
If any codes come back, then the vehicle has to be component
test & repaired
It sounds as though there was some pushing & poking, done by
I assume, a shop & parts changed, tested or in need of replacing,
who knows
You also will have freeze frame data at the time the codes are set,
to help with the diagnoses,IF-- you have a good shop to work on it,
so far that doesn't appear to be the case
I don't buy your hopeful rational --IF-- the oil has not been changed
(often)over the life of the motor, wrong oil used or the cam actuators
have failed,as is sort of where all this conversation has gone or
explained to you
If the cam timing is not correct, then yes, the oxygen sensor codes
may set- BUT- I don't buy the fact they go away & never come back
We could be here a long time,so I suggest you keep your line of
questions going at a repair shop. Their not wrong or far off,you just
need to understand how things work together in a motor or maybe
not play well with other parts under certain conditions
you need to do a major tuneup !!!!!!! replace air & fuel filters, spark plugs & plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, replace OXYGEN SENSOR, change oil & filter, hopefully your catalitic converter is ok, if not , it should be replaced !!!!!!!!!!! together w/tuneup would be the best way to assure passing emissions !!!!!!!!
Are the front or upstream oxygen sensors over 100,000 miles? Air Filter new? Always change oil before inspection & use full synthetic Spark plugs over 2 or 3 years, won't pass insp Clean MAF Sensor
You change oxygen sensors? thoses are now considered part of of tuneup on high mileage engines, plus if you drive highway for 30-49 miles before going gettting emissions testing you get better results.
When all the monitors have run their tests then it will pass emmissions providing that your repairs were successfull...You need to drive it for at least 75 miles so that it can complete its tests....
The 1.8 is a 4 cyl. engine . it has only 2 oxygen sensors . Nissan engine controll systems devides its EGO sensors into banks . Bank 1 is the upstream (top before the catylyctic converter) . Bank 2 is the downstream (after the cat. conv.) I recomend you change both for emissions reasons
I had a similar problem. My 99 Saturn SL1 would crank and crank but would not start. I'd step on the gas repeatedly when it seemed like it was about to start. I got a new battery, alternator, complete tune up and nothing helped. As an aside, my flunked the emissions test and I had to go to a shop and have it hooked up to a computer for diagnosis. They found many things wrong and I ended up changing the oxygen sensor and the catalitic converter because the mechanic said that these were the most important things to fix so that the car could pass the emissions test. My car passed the emissions test Also I no longer had problems with starting the car. Replace your oxygen sensor.
you need a tune up. replace all spark plugs and spark plug wires.change air filter .make sure egr valve is working right.check oxygen sensor. check all vacuum lines.
214 is out of spec ,it will not pass an inspection here in spain thats for sure .Must be lower than 2 .Only soloution i know off is to change the cat and the oxygen sensor ,and not forgotting to take the air filter out for the test
