Question about Skil 1810 Router

1 Answer

My Skil 1810 hand held router was working fine but half way through a project, quit running. All power connections are fine, in fact the LED guide light on the tool still lights up. However, when you hit the trigger nothing happens. The motor will not turn, it doesn't make a sound or turn slowly, you just get nothing. I smelled the motor area and it doesn't have the scent of a burnt up electric motor. I was wondering if there was a fuse or anything that could be replaced. I've barely used this product.

Sounds like you've done everything you could do,. and this really sucks! There are no fuses I know of on this sort of hand too. Is there any way you could return to a box store and ask for an exchange for a "RTV" (return to vendor)? If not try another store? Hey -- asking is free - it's the answer that (usually) costs ya!

I just had the exact same problem ! My router has almost no real run time on it and I was
cutting a slot in a a 2 inch pine. It stopped mid way. No smell power light still on etc.
Took it off the table and plugged direct, nothing. Called Skill....no help there.
Took it apart, you will need a good small screw driver and small vice grips to help turn it.
10 screws ok.(two on collet side) You will find the switch or least mine is not working at all. Jumped the wires and off it ran. Be sure you know or get someone who knows how to jump switch and not get shocked. Be3 sure to take out any tools before you do anything ! good luck

Had the same problem. Took it apart and found the carbon brush set that rides on the armature was all chewed up. Am trying to get parts to fix it. Item was almost brand new.

Need to change collet that broke

The collet is simple to replace - it will pull out if you unscrew one of the large bolts enough. Keep unscrewing the bolt that holds in your bits, and the collet will fall off in your hand. 1/4" or 1/2" replacements are easy to find on eBay or any Skil dealer.

How do you remove the chuck assembly to replace? Just pull it off with pliers?

Some times the collet will get jammed in the chuck and you can lightly tap it to free it. If you use pliers be careful not to ruin your collet.

Skil 1820 router doesnt work

Does it have a collet lock that is not disengaged? Are there two switches on that model?
If not, unplug, spin the bit by hand , then reconnect and then try to start it.
Blow out the motor with compressed air.
Check the brushes if they could be worn.
The switch may have gone out on you. That's how they fail, all of a sudden- like. Sometimes a sharp rap will shake something into place, but short of that, I'd just be guessing...

No power led, wlan led blinking

well, what you could try is unplugging the power source from the cable modem, and the router. wait about 1 minute. then plug everything back in and wait.

i remember having this problem as well, but i think the problem with me was that my wireless computer was too far away from the wireless router, not saying that your too far or not, but that what i had, so i just pitched the wireless adapter, and created an ethernet connection. just sharing my experience.
