Question about Nikon COOLPIX L4 Digital Camera

I have a NIKON Coolpix L4 digital camera and I am trying to upload some pictures to my DELL computer. I've done this before and it practically did it itself. But now for some reason it says preparing to transfer and then communication error

Hi Joe, I've found the CD and put it in the computer, for some reason the camera still says communications error. It comes up on the computer but it won't keep the pictures.

Probably the driver is corrupted or has some issues..and this is what it stops from communicating in the correct mode...reinstall the driver disk ..and try again ....Usually after reinstalling the factory defaults and settings are loaded and also the errors and corrupted parts of the software are fixed..
If you do not have the driver ..I will link you to the support site where you have to choose the operation system you use and download teh driver for installing ..
https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/45822/kw/coolpix%20L4
just go down on the page and click agree and download ...Remove the old program from control panel /add remove software ....and after that reinstall the new update ..and it will work ..
be sure the camera is powered and on ..when you make the transfer ..and also look on screen if it asks for any confirmations..
If the transfer will error again ..look in the My computer folder(computer for windows 7 ) and locate the camera memory by its name or as removable storage ..and get into the folder and copy the pictures manually ..
have a nice day !..

If the Nikon is already installed then it is better to un-install the camera. Now reconnect the camera to the PC as it will try and reinstall the camera as a new hardware. If this works the transfers will work fine. If not there are errors or virus in the system and needs a check.
Also you can transfer using the memory card reader on the PC.

Hello ben.... I have had this same problem. The fix is to download the driver once again into your computer. That is the Nikon disk that came with the camera. IF you do not have that disk handy, you can get a free download from Nikon.com/drivers

Joe
Thanks for choosing Fixya!

NEED SOFTWARE TO UPLOAD PHOTOS FROM NIKPN COOLPIX L4 TO WIMDOWS XP

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Nikon Transfer ( http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61 ) or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

File contains no image data

If you format, you will lose everything...format means erase and optimize. Take your card to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture maker machine. It will usually read all the pics on a card and you can make a cd of them on the machine.
