If i understand your question correctly, then you must first transfer the pictures from your camera onto your computer--put them in a folder you'll be able to find, like "iPad Pics" or something. Then the easiest way (by far) to get them onto your iPad is to sync your iPad with iTunes, then click on the image of the iPad in the left hand column of the iTunes window.
This will open up your syncing options and all that good stuff (I'm sure you've done this). Then just click on the photos tab and set it to sync with the folder you created earlier ("iPad Pics" in my example).
